...and I need advice on purchasing a new one. From what I gather, installation shouldn't be too hard. I just need help making an online decision, since 1) there isn't a computer store within an hour's drive of where I live, and 2) it's bound to be much cheaper online.
I just don't want to make a giant mistake and purchase a notebook hard drive that isn't compatible - talk about a headache with the return-process. Is there some place or some way online I can check out if the hard drive's (I'm looking at online) are compatible with my notebook?? Or is this something I need to talk to an online HP specialist about?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
P.S. If you need, I can submit the links to some of the sites I've been browsing...let me know.
While I've picked up dozens of 9.5 mm high laptop drives from newegg.com, geeks.com and other places the only issue is to stay close to the original size or use a size you know your make/model came from the factory with.

I believe it was a 20gb, I'll have to take it out and check - do you think I'd have much of a problem finding any that work, I've already seen lots of 20gb and 30gb, I'm just not confident enough to purchase yet.
I'm not computer inept, just clueless on this one, never had to do it before.
Thanks for your help.
I'd stay at 32G or smaller if I didn't want to research hard disk size issues.

Someone at another forum directed me here, said all of these should work fine *shrug*

There are "magic" power of 2 issues with drive sizes. You can figure them out at 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 and so on Gigabytes. at 127GB we hit another issue that is discussed at http://www.48bitlba.com
Just sharing that if I didn't want to do any research I would get a 30GB 5400 RPM 2.5inch 9.5MM high drive and install it.

Get any 2.5" hard drive. How big ( GB )it's not an issue anymore, the laptop comes with Windows XP, so it supports up to 100 GB ( there is no bigger than that for laptops ). Go to www.pricewatch.com and search there for prices on laptop hard drives.
If you do office work, a 20, 30 or 40 Gb should do.
