Move photo from computer to camera memory card

by granpama - 7/16/05 5:55 AM

Another newbie question. Is it possible to transfer a photo from my computer to my camera's memory card? I want to use my HP Photosmart printer but it requires a camera memory card.
I use XP, and a Secure Digital memory card. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Most cameras will not let you send photos to the camera from the computer.

However......

If you buy a card reader, you can send photos to any memory card that is plugged into the card reader.
This will accomplish what you want to do.

Card readers run from $20 to $30.
You can find them at Staples and WalMart (or any camera store).

Be sure to get a card reader that will accept your type of memory card.
Some readers will accept several different types of cards.

..........................

I have a HP Photosmart 245 printer and it will read cards and it also connects to the computer with a USB cable.
I print most of my photos directly from the computer.

Joe, I have noticed a feature wih the Canon S400 Image Browser that has an upload area. Have not used this feature at all. I will try it out the next time I am downloading images from my Canon.
Joe, your thoughts…

I just tried what snapshot recommended

by Alan Copeland - 7/16/05 10:51 AM In reply to: Move photo from computer to camera memory card by granpama

and it is just like copying to any other file on the PC. Hint, format you memory card Using My Computer and right clicking on the icon for the removable drive it is in/format and naming the card. I name mine for the model camera (HP945). This way, if you don't know for sure which drive the memory card id in the name will show you in Windows Explorer. When through just rmove the card by clicking on eject rather than format and you are finished.

More tips

I do it all the time with Fuji USB XD card reader for my Fuji S3000, not just with pics, but text files, etc. I have never tried sending them to the card while it was in the camera, because I never hook my camera directly to the computer. Saves a lot of battery power!!

However, I have found that after doing this with mine, I have to format the card with the camera, not the computer, to reclaim the space. Even though the camera shows the card as blank after deleting the file, the space it took is not used by the camera for pics until I format it.
