It has too many blockers. I can't place online orders using it.
I never have any problem with it in the latest (version 8) release.
Choose text adverts until you decide it's worth paying for.
Can't think of a single good reason why Avant would be chosen in preference, as far as I can see Opera has all Avant's advantages over Microsoft's thingy and does more besides.
Thank you for your advice.
Julie
Thanks for letting me know - I hope you find it a good move and get time to let us know.
Cheers.
It's an easy download and the ad toolbar is so small it's barely noticeable. There the good news ends. It's slow when it does load--sometimes it tells me another person is using it which is not true. It won't load Microsoft sites (I use Hotmail) and it won't let me log in to eBay. What woman can live without eBay?
Opera can take a few seconds more than ms explorer to start up but i think that's because it does more like open your collection of previous windows.
go to Opera's Opera user forums for more info - do a search on ''slow start up time'' or something like that.
I have no trouble using ebay at all or microsoft sites usually.
Try pressing F12 in Opera and change some of the options that pop up - I have all the options enabled except proxy servers, and I have 'block unwanted popups' and 'identify as Opera' selected.
Very occasionally theres a web site that won't allow Opera to work - this is a controversial issue. My solution is that I have installed a button from http://people.opera.com/rijk/opera/dndbuttons.html which offers a one-click step to starting up and loading the recalcitrant page in explorer or firefox. There are other worthwhile buttons to download so I have put all the ones I actually use plus the address bar and the google search box and a button that puts all the conventional menu items in a drop down list all on the same row. Then I disabled the traditional menu bar AND the original button bar and paid to remove the tiny advert bar. Even though I have a row of page tabs to accomodate this still leaves all but one inch of my 17inch screen available for displaying pages - that's unless I press F11, when I get the full works.
Hope that helps - it's worth working at!!
I unchecked "proxy" and now I can use Hotmail and eBay and some other sites. The "dndbuttons" site gives me an error message. Opera is still VERY slow but I'll work on that as time permits.
Thanks for all your help. You've been terrific!
Julie
Sorry you had trouble with the dnd site. Not sure which you tried but you can download custom buttons for Opera from the following sites (and others) so maybe trying one of the these would help.
Combined with your choice of alternative skin there is more customisability in Opera than any other browser I know. I knew about thee things for years before I tried using them because I thought they'd be difficult but actually they're exceedingly simple and well worth the time spent so I wish I'd customised my Opera sooner.
Hope you all enjoy.

I am more than happy with Maxthon. FlashPeak SlimBrowser was my browser before Maxthon.
Have you read all this lot and reached you conclusion or were you just trying to stir some controversy??
well, I just want to give my two cents worth, since I downloaded opera, but cannot do so yet, because I simply haven't had the time. From what I can see, it's impressive and cannot be compared to IE. But since it is more complex and safer, I will need time to judge.
After having seen Opera, who wants IE.
I will report, soon.
i have worked on almost all browsers and have found firefox to be the best and for the sites that they donot open in firefox u can install IE-6/7, bettter have boht of them. Depned on my word it si true.
I use Chakra Browser to surf the web, I use FireFox or K-Meleon for surf the interactive websites. I also use another browsers like Internet Explorer, Avant Browser and Acoo Browsers....
Sometime I also use Internet Explorer, Avant Browser and Acoo Browser. To save my surfing time, I run ChProxy that enable me to catch all web pages I surfed, so I don't have to save webpages again and again. I can concentrate on my journey to internet...ChProxy will do the rest for me.
If I found such domain that interisting to me, I use ChGrabber to grab the domain.
Chakra, ChProxy, and ChGrabber is created by Quick4All.com. On Chakra environment, there is no different between online or offline, dynamic pages or static pages. All three products use the same databases. The simple way to download them all is download the Chakra Jumbo Edition.

Basuki

Obviously you are all much more computer-literate than I am and I really appreciate all your information. Thank you, Katieann, for starting this discussion.
My results so far:
If you have Netscape email you must use a Netscape browser. Firefox is the best. When Kmeleon changes pages my Netscape ISP--which is fabulous by the way--asks if I'm sure I want to disconnect. No, I don't. This is so annoying I am only keeping Kmeleon as a backup in case something happens to Firefox. I can't get Opera to speed up so I've removed it.
Slimbrowser is the fastest of the IE-based browsers and Advanced the next fastest. Avant started crashing my computer so I removed it. The occasional crash became a regular occurence. Advanced is by the same people but I've had no crashes with it. Maxthon is very good.
Oooh, some lovely person has provided more goodies to check out. See you all later.
