You might want to question the mentality of anyone who makes intolerant assumptions and has imagined superiority due to insensibility. I'm looking forward to listening to my classical or big band playlist today for the hour and a half it's going to take to get my windshield replaced. I prefer music to the whine of glass saws or the random chit-chat of strangers.
I use a flash based mp3 player by iriver, model IFP-190, 256 Mb. It has been very reliable, just needs more memory. I've had it for 2 years. Iriver just replaced it with a new one when the power switch broke
I use a hard drive based player the "Archos Jukebox Player/Recorder, 15 gig hard drive, so does my son, in the military who always jogging and working out.
It's been great. Still with original battery. I've dropped it many times; once the case cracked open and the innards were hanging out. Tucked them back in, snapped it shut, and off it went. Dropped it yesterday while doing yard work, and it didn't even skip. I don't need a docking station or accessories; when at home I use my laptop/audigy hooked up to the Bose stereo system as an entertainment center. I don't keep my music library on the Jukebox -- just the playlists. It doesn't handle encrypted files very well, but since I prefer my music unencrypted and non-proprietary, this is not an issue for me. If I get another portable player, it will be a Creative product.
My niece got an Ipod for Christmas. It has had to be returned for service twice.
I use my Sony Ericsson K750i. I put an extension of 1gb on it so far via MS Duo Pro. I have two other Memory sticks that I just keep with me. They are loaded with songs as well. The only bad thing about this is that the mp3 player kills the battery. It only lasts about 3-5 hours when I play mp3's non-stop. But it is ok though, I have great sound quality on it. I am looking forward to a Walkman Based phone by SOny Ericsson. w800. Coming out at the end of thi month.
Digital Jukebox 40GB. I love it because it's not an Apple which means I don't have to deal with iTunes crankiness. I know it works perfectly well for many people, but in order for that to happen I would have to change the way I do some things, and I don't feel like doing that. MusicMatch has worked well for me for years. Dell's piece lets me use whatever software I want, it was much cheaper than an iPod, and it gets the job done perfectly well. The trade-offs are the following: it's heavier, it's controls are less convenient, and it's bigger. For the sake of $100, I can deal with those things since I only use it a couple of times a week anyway.
I have an archos mp3player recorder which has a 10 gigabyte hardrive.
I have my Zire 72s always with me. Pocket tunes and Sony earphones help make my PDA a very capable MP3 player. Soune is very audible and crisp, music sounds phenomenal (though I may be exagerrating a bit but it really works for me).
My apologies, I typed too fast.
I listen to books from audible.com. I can store a small library on my ipod. wouldn't do without it!
Audiovox smt5600 great phone and a great mp3 player. I use it in the car, at home, at work, running thru the woods(hashing)...with the added functionality and user interface of a phone...imho it's a no brainer.
My reasons for picking a phone over a flash player
Most phones come with good displays/screens
Depending on the os, there are 3rd party software.
Most phones are a similar price as flash player
Some phones have expandable memory.
One less thing to carry.
and finally
Phones can call people.. ![]()
Creative Nomad Zen 30 GB
I don't have one nor do I plan to purchase one.
I am hearing impaired. I wear two hearing aids, and with my hearing loss I depend on the hearing aids. Without the hearing aids I cannot hear. I cannot listen to an Ipod or any MP3, CD player with my hearing aids. I much rather hear what is going on around me then not be able to hear at all. Perhaps one day with the way technology changes all the time I will be able to walk around and listen to music like everyone else and be able to hear what is going on around me at the same time. But until then,......

I have had my HP Ipaq for a year and it plays mp3s great. Not only can i play music, but video, and view pictures. All PDA's (newer) are like mini computers, so the possibilities are endless
I own a micro hard drive mp3 player which is the Iriver H10 (5Gb). It's easy to use and I love it.
