Samsung YP-T6 X

I think mine's pretty awesome as well! (I wonder what they added to the T7?)

I'm amazed at all of the features that they crammed into it, but I really like the flexibility of not only MP3 files, but WMA and OGG. Recording from line-in or FM are nice features, although, that isn't something that I'll use often.

Also, the headphones that come with it are decent. You can buy better, but these are probably as good or better than your usual included headphones.

Basic Mobile Listening

by whumphrey - 7/12/05 3:58 PM In reply to: What type of device do you use as a portable MP3 player? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I acquired an iPod mini this year. I enjoy listening to MY playlist instead of the radio station's DJ while riding the bus.

iPod for more than music

by jonmac - 7/12/05 4:06 PM In reply to: What type of device do you use as a portable MP3 player? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I bought the 40 GB iPod last year, and it is great for music, but it has a higher purpose - data storage. It has a great combination of size, weight, and "feel". It has a respectable heft, which in my opinion is far better than a cheap plastic shell over a battery and a chip.

In any case, the reason why I bought it was not for music, but primarily for data. It is, after all, a portable hard drive. This is where the weight comes into play, it is stable. The option of both firewire and USB set it apart from most MP3 players, as does storage capacity.

The draw backs to the iPod are, 1) the incredibly high cost of the unit itself, 2) the poor longevity of the battery, 3) the incredibly high cost of getting the battery replaced, 4) the incredibly high cost of Apple accessories, and 5) the incredibly high cost of after market accessories. If you can afford it, the iPod is the way to go for those needing data storage capabilities as well as an MP3 player. If all you want is an MP3 player, the iPod is probably the last one I would recommend due to the cost of the unit and associated accessories.

iTunes is a great application for playing music, whether you have an iPod or not, but Windows Media Player will do the same thing, on the desktop anyway.

The one I would like to see is integrated Bluetooth. That would rock my boat. all in all, setting price aside, I'll give the iPod an 8 out of ten. Other MP3 players have nothing over 6.

by rayseale - 7/12/05 4:13 PM In reply to: What type of device do you use as a portable MP3 player? by Marc Bennett Moderator

iPod is the best available. Dell's is a cheap imitation. Before you scream - I know 3 different people that have had the, Hard core Dell/PC fans. They ALL have iPods now that there Dell's bit it in everyday use.

Scream away - Proof is the Dell sucks.

Dell isn't even that big of a competitor in mp3 players anymore. You have very little knowledge of mp3 players.

MP3 Player

I use my PDA, a DELL Axim X30 running WM2003SE with Windows Player 10.0. I stuck a 1Gig Sandisk Ultra 2 SD card in it. It's not a ipod, but it will do the job until I can afford to buy one.

Have the first iPod 40GB; love it!

Course I'm a Mac user. iPod will bring more and more computer people over to Macs. One simple reason -- the quality and ease of use, without the hassle of 'worms' virus etc that plague ordinary pcs. OS X rocks!

I don't plan to get one.

Simply put, MP3 is not good enough. It is a technology based upon the loss of information. So, of course, is JPEG but the eye is more easily fooled than the ear. MP3 sound is simply not up to the audio CD standard and I'm not willing to put up with MP3 sound.

That is why...

Apple also supports AAC, AIFF, and Apple Loseless (a loseless format for audiophiles with half the file size of a full WAV or AIFF file). I don't think they should be called MP3 players anymore...Digital Music Players sound much better.

iPod all the way

I have a U2 iPod, in black. I would probably choose a white one if I had a do over. So many of the accessories are only in white. I bought an iMac G5 because I was so happy with my iPod. But beware you don't reformat your iPod to the Mac format because then you can't plug into your windows based boxes any more.

iPod photo - it's the best

by heatherjeffs - 7/12/05 4:27 PM In reply to: What type of device do you use as a portable MP3 player? by Marc Bennett Moderator

I use the iPod Photo 30Gb. It works seemlessly with iTunes and my iMac. iTunes is so easy to use for playing, purchasing and importing music - and the full screen visualizer is like a giant lava lamp. My iPod goes with me everywhere. I use it with the headphones and with the Monster iTrip in my XTerra. The playlists and the color screen are the best features. It has no bad features - it is the best!

I could not agree with you more! :)

I've got a 30gb iPod photo and just received a 20gb U2 iPod w/ color screen as a birthday gift from my wife. I went to Thailand in 2002 and took my 10Gb iPod with me on the plane with a pair of Sony noise cancelling headphones. Talk about saving your sanity! I would use the sleep timer to conserve the battery.
I'm heading back to the LOS (land of Smiles) in November for two weeks. The first thing I'm packing is my two iPods and all the accessories to keep the tunes going strong for two weeks. I have photos of past trips loaded to show my Thai friends at the Beer Bars!
I just recieved a black Countour Case for my U2 ipod. It really makes the unit look slick while protecting the electronics inside.
iPods rule!
