Simple things to try.

Before trying anything listed before, you may want to use a cleaning kit make specifically for computers (most regular CD cleaning kits don't work on tray loaded players).

First, make sure the drive is connected. By chance you may have slightly loosened the connector cable.

Second, check if it is a listed hardware Start Menu > Right Click on "My Computer" > Properties > Hardware Tab > Device Manager Button. Double click DVD/CD Rom listing and see if the drive is listed. If it is, uninstall it anyway.

Third, go to Start Menu > click on Control Panel > Switch to Classic View (on the left side) > Click on Add Hardware. Follow the instructions from there.

I hope this helps out.
