Cuts out on songs for a few seconds when playing music files that I have played before with no problem. Also if I run thru the song a couple of times the dead spot disappears.
I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition with P4 2.8g 512ram and 160g hard drive.
Anyone have any ideas???
There are plenty of free ones about.
It might help you decide if it's WMP, or your computer, or your tracks.
Are these songs played from a CD, or direct from the hard disk? If CD, do you have any other problems with running CDs?
Check your settings in WMP. Is it attempting to connect to the internet, for upgrades, licensing information, missing track information, etc?

I don't know if it is tracks or my computer and don't know how to check. This problem I described is with downloaded songs from Limewire. The day I downloaded them they worked fine and you know the rest. I actually don't have any CD's to check and see if the problem persists there as well. I will try R. Profitts suggestion and turn every thing else off.
I will write here what happens.
Could you list some of the free players that you speak of. Thanks Jeff
Delete the song from the computer, and try it from the CD.
I will have to borrow a CD from someone as I don't have any.
The discussion is now closed.
WMP is not coded to be efficient or run along with other applications. The reasons are simple in that it's a free bundled app with other goals in mind. There is no known cure to WMP outside of replacement and trying running only WMP at the time you want to use it.

What version of Media Center are you running (ie 2005)? Was this an upgrade or was it shipped as-is? Who assembeled the PC? Without knowing that, I'll give you a couple of ideas anyway:
Uninstall Media Player updates and the player itself. Then reinstall. You may have to remove the old install files (they may have been corrupt) from the temp and install folder thoughout your system. At first, just try to do the basic and if that doesn't work, shoot me a message back and I can give you a step-by-step.
WARNING: Do NOT used this unless you have given up all hope, and have read Microsoft's warning too. This may render Media Player useless and a reinstall of the player and/or OS will be needed.
There is a hotfix from Microsoft. Again, please read my and their warning! http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;884373
Again, please post your specs and I'll be able to help you out with a better idea of what may be wrong.
