Does anyone know about StopSign.com and are they reliable? I'm afraid to download it because I don't know anyone who has used it. I have seen it advertised on TV but then again that doesn't mean anything. I don't want to change internet providers so I am looking that allows me to keep verizon DSL. Are there any on-line free downloads that anyone recommends? Thank you.

Let me add that STOPSIGN that you see on TV advertisements is also incorporating spyware...
Sad,
Bob
Oh My GOSH . something told me not to do it and I didn't .... Whew!!! Thank you so much for telling me that. I couldn't find a review on this site. Thank you. Any suggestions? AJ
Me again AJ LOL These are 3 of the better ones. They all work well together and are free. The first 2 are scanners and what one misses the other picks up. The 3rd one is a blocker which blocks over 3,000 bad items. Download and install them, check for updates and then scan with the first two and don't worry about the third once you enable it except checking for updates about once a week. Any questions, just ask, there are a number of people that will help you.

I disagree with you - if your not recommending STOPSIGN- Wait still your computer gets a virus called
(ABOUT BLANK) that hijacks your Internet Explorer. The freeware spyware programs will FIND the problem,
but the 3 freeware programs I had- WOULD NOT REMOVE
the virus. Stop Sign worked for me where the others didn't. I guess it just depends what level of protection you want, I have always went the FREEWARE route myself, but in my case, it didnt work on removing the virus that HIJACKS your Internet Explorer.
Hope this helps, just my opinion.
This is what Eric Howes, who puts out Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites says about the program:
"Note on eAcceleration Stop-Sign: eAcceleration's Stop-Sign anti-malware scanner was listed on this page primarily because of the company's history of employing deceptive advertising and drive-by-downloads (1, 2, 3, 4). The company was also known for removing and/or disabling competing apps. These objectionable business practices were employed primarily during the years 2002-2003.
Sometime during 2004 the company underwent reorganization. Not only have the worst of the company's download and installation practices been halted, but the company has completely overhauled its stub installer application, giving users much more control over the software modules to be installed on their systems (1, 2).
While testing indicates that the "threat scanner" is still slow and has occasional problems with false positives -- in large part because of the use of heuristics, which cannot be turned off by the user -- we can no longer classify this application as "rogue/suspect." Nonetheless, this anti-malware application -- at least in its current state -- cannot be recommended, given the many excellent competing anti-virus, anti-trojan, and anti-spyware applications that are available (some for free).
(Note: other domains associated with this outfit include: accelerationsw.com, buttonware.com, buttonware.net, clicksales.com, downloadsales.com, homepageware.com, oodlz.com, signupsales.com, webcelerator.com) [A: 6-26-04 / U: 8-7-04]"
I would proceed with caution ...
Yes, I have ad aware se personal that is free and it really works. I also use Spyware Blaster that runs all the time to protect you. Here are the links:

Ad Aware is from Lavasoft and has really great review, and best of all it's free, hope this helps!!!
Greetings and good day.
I came across your question while attempting to find a way to entirely remove "stopsign" from my computer.
I've used StopSign for about 7 months and basicly it's a bait and switch. They DO find all kinds of spyware on your computer and even claim to have found some sort of Trogen, then charg you to remove them. Yeah, my computer acted a little better for a few weeks but they [StopSign] slowly add cookie after maleware, and their own files gobble up your system resources to the point of making it worse than when you started. They also throw in a bunch of B level games that you can download anywhere and an online RPG that is never accessable for one reason or another.
SO.....bottom line. If you REALLY need to check and clear our system, use it ONCE and dump it. Don't let them talk you into the "year long plan" savings!
Good luck

In response from your question about stopsign spyware-
Its not free as I understand, I paid 72.00 for a 3 yr. membership which I usually dont do (would rather use freeware), but in this case it was worth it. I had
spyware on my computer that was HIJACKING my Internet Explorer and the 3 spyware programs I had on my computer found the virus, it was called (About Blank).
Make a long story short the 3 programs I had - Spyware Doctor-SpyHunter-SpyBlocker all found the virus but WOULD NOT or COULD NOT remove it. I took a chance with the costly STOPSIGN spyware, because it was a money back guarentee, and much to my pleasure,
it removed the virus that the others could not, and I've been using it since. Haven't worried about spyware problems since. I swear by it and if it doesnt work for you-you always can return it within 30 days I believe. Hope this helps.
I had that on a machine and found out it is spyware. Try removing it and it will show it's true colors.
I just read your post and the follow-ups in the thread.
I am the CTO at eAcceleration Corp, makers of the Stop-Sign software you're referring to in your posts.
I would like to assure you that Stop-Sign is absolutely NOT spyware or malware or adware. Nor does it EVER infect you with anything.
In the recent past, Microsoft, Norton, McAfee, PestPatrol, and many others, have given Stop-Sign a "clean bill of health" and removed any detection from their products.
Best regards,
David Nason
CTO
eAcceleration Corp.
I had alot of problems and as a former user of Norton,
I had to use stop sign to kill a virus that hijacked my norton, it worked ,cleaned my computer and it has been running great and safe ever since.
I have now installed on it my mothers computer and it cleared up her problems as well.{ she had macafee}
Also i recomended it to a friend who was having major problems and they used stop sign and they have called and said thanks for the great tip!
I like and use the Veloz Speed Up Tool, the On Access/IM Scan Tool , System Patcher, the Fire Wall and my savior the THREAT SCANNER!
The reason i am on this site is i down loaded the lava soft adware se and when i ran it the eAcceleration came up as spyware and i was concerned, no other spyware or adware was detected, { probaly because my stop sign threat scanner keeps that clean}
So i am deleting the lava soft adware and going with what i know has worked best for me!
I sm sn IT tec. and I use avast! home edition at home. I looked in to stop-sign and just as I went into the download, avast!'s quotee "(serin, serin, serin) WARNING! THERE IS A VIRUS ON YOUR COMPUTER!" and traced it right to the website. Stay away from the "Anti-Virus."
A piece of junk! Stay away from it. It has installed a virus or spyware that hijacked my homepage and has done God knows what to my system. Pleeeeas! Stay away!!!
