Scam regarding INPHONIC INC

by ysrodrigues - 6/29/05 7:25 AM In reply to: How can we fight back against InPhonics by cwbk

To Whom it May Concern regarding INPHONIC INC. Below is a copy of letter sent to both the FTC and BBB regarding my recent experience with INPHONIC INC. I have also sent a copy to INPHONIC for all the good that will do....

I am writing to complain about the scamming by a company known as INPHONIC INC. At the time, I was not a seasoned veteran of using the internet. While surfing I received a pop-up add stating if I completed a questionnaire I would received a free magazine. The seal stated that if I opened the phone, I would be accepting the terms and conditions and fearful of that warning, I placed it in my closet unopened. A month later a bill for $43.00 arrived from T-Mobile. I called to dispute and they stated that they have received multiple complaint calls regarding a company called INPHONIC INC.

T-MOBILE agreed to cancel my service agreeing to zero out the charge. Several months later a bill for $9.00 came from INPHONIC INC for shipping and handling. I called this company, once the phone was finally answered by a very rude woman, I was then put on hold again, when I complained they slammed the phone against the desk, so that I could hear everything such as ''hey this guy does not want to be left on hold, lets see if he likes this''....When someone named TROY finally did pick up the phone, he accused me of ''breaking the contract'' and insulted me.

Stating ''if I did not know how to use the internet, that was not his problem'', and hung-up. Needless to say, I paid the bill for $9.00. Two weeks ago, I received a bill for $150.00 from a collection agency called ENHANCED RECOVERY on behalf of INPHONIC INC.

I WOULD BE HAPPY TO RETURN THE PHONE TO THIS COMPANY, BUT DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO SEND IT. IN THE MEAN TIME, THEY HAVE FILED A LETTER AGAINST MY CREDIT AND THAT ANGERS ME. I would like help in disputing this charge against my credit.

I would like this company to be exposed for the hooligans they are and so that this does happen to anyone else. I have already filed a complaint with the FCC and now with the Better Business Bureau, in the mean time, I am trying every avenue available.

Regards, Daniel xxxx (number I have never used, found only the Collection Agency Letter) I can be reached at xxxxxxx I am considering Legal Action as an alternative if this is not resolved

Desired Outcome:
Remove the mark against my Credit Company
Remove the Debt of $150.00
Allow me to return the phone

INPHONIC INC

by lbough - 9/20/05 10:43 AM In reply to: Scam regarding INPHONIC INC by ysrodrigues

Daniel,

It would not have helped for you to have returned the phone. Not only did I try to cancel my order through their website within 24 hours of ordering but I also called INPHONIC. I was told that it had been shipped and I could open the box for return instructions and return the phone. When I tried to follow the return instructions I could not reach INPHONIC by email or phone. I had subscribed to Sprint for phone service and because the phone was a Sprint phone, I contacted Sprint and they gladly cancelled the service and help me make arrangements for returning the phone. I still continue to receive the bill for $150.00 from INPHONIC. I'm going to file a complaint with the BBB and my state attorney general in hopes of clearing up the mess created by INPHONIC.

I place an order online and everything felt good. They said the phone upon credit approval would be sent Friday. It's friday! No response so I googled Wirefly complaints and learned a lot. I just called and cancelled my order. So if all goes good maybe I'll be credited back my money. I did place this order because the deal was good and I put a lot of time into finding the right deal. Everything on the Web page seems legite and the links seem credible.

Thank you EVERYONE for informing me the truth!

They are Crooks!!!

by Todd Kramer - 9/9/05 12:50 PM In reply to: wirefly by Livingood

This is an awful, dishonest company. Their prices are low, but everything else about them is terrible!

They first off are completely incompetant. They second off are unaccountable for anything they do. Try to get them on the phone and you’ll see what I mean, that is if you are lucky enough to find their phone number anywhere. I wonder why that is???

So it all started when they incorrectly delivered my phone, even though I wrote a long explanation of where to send it (but still correctly filling out all of the required fields). They sent it to my physical address, not my shipping address (I live in Vail, CO and have no postal service at my physical address) so it was shipped back to sender. After 5 nasty phone calls w/ nasty, rude people I finally received my phone.

Skip ahead 6 months. It is now time for my rebate to be sent in. After waiting 150-210 days I mailed exactly what they were asking for. They have the most asinine instructions, doing just about everything possible to cause mistakes from the mailers. This rebate is for $300, so I made sure to follow the directions to a ‘T’. Two weeks later they still haven't received anything. So I decide to resend the rebate, only this time send it certified. Make sure you make copies of your rebate mailings. 4 weeks later and they still say they don't have my info. By now I have missed my window to redeem my rebate, and nobody at the crappy-ass rebate center can give me any information because they still say they haven’t received anything. I tell them they've already signed for the certified letter a week ago. They say it's still not it the system and could take 8-12 additional weeks!!! At this rate I’m sure I won’t get my rebate back, and if I do it will be at least a year after I bought it.

They SUCK. THEY ARE A BUNCH OF CROOKS. FROM WHAT I'VE READ IN OTHER REVIEWS THEY DO THIS TO EVERYBODY.

After I fill out all of the customer website review forums I can find I am headed next to the Better Business Bureau AND the FCC. If this has happened to you w/ Wirefly I suggest you do the same.

Fight internet fraud

by thomvey - 9/13/05 10:47 AM In reply to: How can we fight back against InPhonics by cwbk

The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigates internet fraud. The link below is to their website for posting complaints re: suspected internet fraud. Legitimate consumer web sites should do periodic research and be wary of supporting, or being viewed as being complicit with, companies with such a large number of complaints. With so many complaints, it is statistically reasonable to assume that a good many of them are in fact legitimate. The reputation of the suspect corporation may soon soil that of the referring party as well.

The Internet Fraud Complaint Center (IFCC) is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), and tracks consumer complaints and potential fraud patterns.

Fight InPhonics

by Ginger1 - 9/24/05 11:10 AM In reply to: How can we fight back against InPhonics by cwbk

If you are in Florida, write the Attorney General, I did. They say they keep these complaints and if they see a pattern, they will begin to investigate. If you aren't in Florida, perhaps your own Attorney General will do the same.

I thought I was the only one.

by Edutilos - 2/12/05 8:13 AM In reply to: I got ripped off too by rganguly

We signed up with AT&T Wireless, and got two phones but only one bill. Then, it took me four and a half months to get $100 rebate back (supposed to be $200 rebate as AT&T promised us). The reason we were rejected was exact the same with Rganguly's, but we were $100 luckier.

I plan to complain to Better Business Bureau in White Bear Lake, MN office (seemed like Inohonics rebate office is located there) and to AT&T also. I assumed AT&T should not give customers false advertisement in the first place.

Good luck to all of us.

InPhonic BBB entry -- needs your update!!

by aharmon - 2/15/05 4:16 PM In reply to: I thought I was the only one. by Edutilos

Thank You, Thank You to all for sharing your comments!! I am glad that I found this discussion group. I was just about to SUBMIT a purchase with InPhonic. NO WAY NOW!

Please submit your problems to BBB. Here are the details on InPhonic's current entry. As you see below, the entry needs much correction to reflect their poor poor service record.

NOTE the last sentence ... you may actually be compensated for your troubles.

Good Luck.

BBB is worthless to the consumer

by Chester_Durkin - 7/16/05 4:31 PM In reply to: InPhonic BBB entry -- needs your update!! by aharmon

I have never found BBB to be straight forward in
their comments if a question is brought up about
a dues paying member.

If your in business, there are two paths of least
resistance, join BBB and you can hide behind them,
then pay Jesse Jackson off when he tries to blackmail
you.

Both of the above have been successful in their unarmed holdups.

Wirefly & Inphonic

by joliett - 6/28/05 2:27 PM In reply to: I thought I was the only one. by Edutilos

I ordered two CINGULAR RAZRs for free from WIREFLY. We received them - in two days! One phone came with the camera lens a bit off, and WIREFLY exchanged it - in two days - and all postage was covered - with NO TROUBLE at all.

But then the trouble began...we switched back to VERIZON. They havent processed my order in 10 days already. They keep asking for proof of our billing address, and credit card statement. We faxed them the documents and they say they havent received them - I call everyday --- so when things go wrong - LOOK OUT.
