I've been looking for a couple of weeks and can't find the best 15.4 inch widescreen laptop. I've looked at Dell Ispiron 6000, HP dv4000 and zv6000, HP's Compaq counterparts, Toshiba Satellite M45, etc. Whenever I look at any of these reviews on CNet, every review say the performance is sluggish compared to its rivals. So what is the best performance. Price isnt a big deal. I'm looking for Pentium M 1.73, 1 GB SDRAM, 60 or 80 GB hard drive, DVD writer, and good graphics performance. Thanks in advance.
I'm looking for a notebook with the same criteria, and after lots of research I've settled on either the Toshiba Qosmio F25 or the older F15. The F25 is a bit faster and has better battery life, but lacks 128mb graphics and integrated bluetooth, both features included on the F15. In addition, you can find the F15 for as little as $1.5 K, which is $500 cheaper than the F25. That said, both notebooks have more features and better performance than their competitors, and Toshiba machines tend to have good reliability and service. I hope this helps...
If you want those specs, get the FS660. I got rid of my HP zd8000 for the Sony. Some people complain about the graphics but it beats my old zd with the ati x600 card. You can pick one up at Compusa for 1549 with rebates.
I actually settled on the Inspiron 6000 because of a sale that Dell was having. I got $750 off on the notebook with the following specs:
1.86 Pentium M
SXGA+ resoultion
1 G DDR2 SDRAM 533Mhz
128 MB ATI dedicated graphics chip
MS Office Basic
The only problem was that with the sale i couldnt upgrade the hard drive so I was stuck with a 40 GB hard drive. I plan to upgrade that with a third-party hard drive once i get it though. My other concern was the screen brightness and quality since I have heard complaints. If i don't like it i guess i could return it. After all of this it was only $1470 which i consider i pretty good steal. I would have gone with the Sony FS or the Toshiba M45 but I wanted dedicated graphics.
