http://www.adventtv.com/2751adetail.html
heres the link to their main website. i was looking at bestbuy.com and found this tv for 379.99 and hd ready. it sounds too good to be true.any ideas about this tv and company?
*** just to add... you get what you pay for, but through experience i have found some products to be really good although really cheap.
I am in the same boat. I see this tv as a great deal but am worried about the brand name. I just have a feeling its one of those products that might blow up a day after the warantee is over... Does anybody know!?
And if I'm not mistaken, this is a 4:3 HD, and the picture on it is ****. It looks like trash too. Similar to Maxent's HD, it's a trash TV, but it is cheap, you've got that right.
I bought a advent tv at best buy for $375 almost 3 yrs ago and still work like tv.
This tv is 27' and there was this sony same screen size but $550. So i really wouldnt pay the differences in price just to get a sony
-I have a 30" Advent HDTV, got it at K-mart.
-In another CNET forum there was much talk about Wall Mart having a 30" Sanyo with built in HD tuner, which sounded like a better deal.
-First of all I have nothing to compare to, but I like my Advent. It has made my regular big dish much better. The HD ( I only get over the air, OTA, HD), is very good at times, but it is rare that I get a good quality broadcasted image. What they broadcast is mostly fuzzy. ABC "Desperate housewives" comes in very good, but it isn't like going from black and white to color. PBS is the other HD I get besides ABC, it can be fantastic at times, but mostly it is hard to tell from regular TV.
- Boy am I having fun picking up digital signals............NOT ! It is like being back in the early TV (50s)days. I get a bad signal, or the station goes off the air, I call them up, and they say everything is OK ??
FYI, The Name Advent has been around for a long this in the home audio field, they made one of the first home video projectors in the mid '80s and realy helped get the home theater concept going.
Yes, you have play around to get a good signal for HDTV
maybe add a 10db RF amp. John
- I've got an amp connected to my regular antenna, it helped me go up one bar, from 8 bars to 9.
- Now my big experiment is my homemade big dish antenna. I hooked up a 7' dish to a simple loop antenna, that got me to 10 bars on one station, (no amp). I am thinking of rigging it up to a rotor on top of my barn,.......... trying to get Syracuse 70 miles away, "no siginal" now.
-Love to tinker !
I have an Advent TV (flat screen) ~ 27 inch. It is about a year old and now makes a very loud hissing noise. I would not recommend this brand of TV. It is worht the extra 100 dollars to get a Sony that will work!!!!
Additionally, I would like to add that I recently did some research on forums accross the globe and there are many others that have the same problems with their Advent TV!
The tv was great for about three years and then the remote went funny. It worked if you changed it to tv or cable tv mode. I finally lost the remote and all the little red light does is blink. It is a great tv but a crummy remote
I have a 32" Advent 2 yrs old. The color & sound went out and I have been unable to find anyone who can work on this brand. I found the Advent web site but it just refers you to an outside service company that does not list any service sites by state or location. I have been on hold since then so I sent an e-mail and haven't heard anything yet (except the music while I am on hold).
...The music, that is. ;~)
Seriously though, that really sucks. Makes you really think about buying outside the "big brands."
We got our 32" Advent TV from k-mart about 5yrs ago, it was a display model, and it is just now starting to go wonky. The picture goes out randomly, goes to blue screen. Sometimes with sound, others nothing. Seems to help by turning it off for awhile and then back on. Would I get another Advent? Probably.
The color would come and go, sometimes only the blue was working. So after 5 years it went in the garbage.
i run mine almost 24/7 for over 5 years now and it is still working like a champ...perhaps my best purchase ever! what are you guys pouring kool aid on it or something? i know this post is old, about as old as when i got it, but i personally had an orgasmic experience.
