Common Variations

by gooslojo - 6/15/05 10:43 PM In reply to: How do you keep track of all your passwords? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have common "pieces" of passwords that I have memorized. For example, piece a b c and d are memorized and make it easier to remember the combinations, i.e. ab,ac, ad etc.

KeyPass.

Similar to Passport but more user friendly (In my opinion).

I keep them on a PDA

by slicedhead - 6/18/05 9:37 AM In reply to: How do you keep track of all your passwords? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

To keep away any chance of theft by any means other than someone breaking in to my home I keep my ID's and passwords on a PDA and backed up on my non-internet connected PC.

Norton Password Manager

by trekker75 - 6/18/05 12:25 PM In reply to: How do you keep track of all your passwords? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

This allows you to set a password for the app itself, and encrypts stored pw's. One can set how often it prompts for a password. It can also auto-fill other personal info if desired. As soon as a page is opend requiring a password, NPM will fill in the info.

by trekker75 - 6/18/05 12:28 PM In reply to: Norton Password Manager by trekker75

I wouldn't have Norton Password Manager, but it was bundles with Norton Internet Security with an online renewal, so the price was right...free. I don't think it's worth $30 or so. It does do the job however.

Can Norton Password manager allow you multiple user and....

by win2day - 10/23/05 1:08 AM In reply to: Norton Password Manager by trekker75

I cant figure out how to get Norton Password Manager to allow me to store multiple user names and passwords to a single web site. For example, yahoo email. If you have more than one email at yahoo, it will only store one unless you create a separate identity...which is a hassle to switch back and forth. There are other programs such as roboform which makes this easy. Am I missing something or can this be done on Norton Password Manager? I cant figure out how....and if you cant...then that is a big big big mistake made on the part of Symantec in its design.

Tracking Passwords

by twehmeier - 6/19/05 11:44 AM In reply to: How do you keep track of all your passwords? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Usually, you are allowed between 3 and 5 incorrect password entries before your password is disabled. I keep 5 separate passwords, in various degrees of complexity. Obviously, my banking password is going to be more complicated than a newsletter subscription :)

If I forget, I know there are only 5 to choose from, and depending on the location of the password, I immediately know how complex the password I assigned. Therefore, it is easy for me to guess which one is correct.

Roboform AND renew it's password monthly

by deeskillman - 6/22/05 2:48 PM In reply to: How do you keep track of all your passwords? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

We purchased roboform and trust their expertise, and we also password protect them all. The alph-numeric password to open roboform's passwords is changed monthly when the Palm software reminds us. The new password is then updated on a mini-notebook in our safe.

It takes a minute or two - but we know from personal experience that those few minutes could be the most financially valuable 180 seconds you spent the entire month!

You can carry your passwords in your head.

by Len Morgenstern - 6/26/05 7:28 AM In reply to: How do you keep track of all your passwords? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I have 3 passwords, all taken from an obscure work on Jewish medieval demonology. I obtain a password for a particular site by inserting 1 or 2 symbols into the middle of one of them.

It works as follows: Suppose password 1 is Asmodeus9. Then the password for Amazon is asmoAdeus9. I remember it as "1A".

This has several advantages:
1. I can carry most passwords in my head even though each site has a different one.
2. I can write them down without making them easily accessible to snoopers.
3. I can change all my passwords at once by changing the names of the demons.

If you don't happen to have a book on demonology on your shelf, try Larousse's Mythology, available in most libraries. Lots of obscure gods from all over the world are in there.

Good old ZDNet Password Pro 32

by gillesg - 9/5/05 6:46 PM In reply to: How do you keep track of all your passwords? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

A few years ago I downloaded a copy ZDNet Password Pro, then upgraded to the 32bits versions. It still do a fantastic job.
I also use MS Access password protected tables at work.

Kind of ... desperate

by nezzo - 9/5/05 9:06 PM In reply to: Good old ZDNet Password Pro 32 by gillesg

Gillesg, PassPro32 was really a very simple and excelent utility for storing passwords.

I've had a problem with a backup CD were this program was backed up, and now I cannot access a data file with some passwords I have.

I wasn't able to find the program anywhere else on the web (since it's been discontinued and apparently not very popular among the fellow surfers), so I'd like to contact you via email to request if you're kind enough to send me this file.

If you don't mind, my email is nezzo--at--hotmail.com

Thanks in advance.
Cheers!
