Hello, I have a PII laptop running Win98SE and lately it has been restarting when I tell it to shut down. It acts exactly like it should when I tell it to restart, shutting down Windows, powering off, and then rebooting. Right now, the only way to turn off the computer is to shut it off and then hold down the power button before Windows starts up again. What might be causing this and how can I fix it?
It's why there's a nice website with the usual cures at http://aumha.org/win4/a/shtdwnse.php
Be sure to use the sequential strategy. Remember that you will get replies "that this worked for me", but that may only work for their issue an not yours.
Have fun since it's curable some 98% of the time.
Bob
Luckily, tracking down and fixing the problem wasn't a big deal in my case. I just went to the Microsoft website, found the Win98 SE Shutdown Patch and that seemed to do the trick! Thanks
