I started by keeping a simple text document, typing the relevant information about a new product, and a line of periods below each entry. This worked just fine in 1991. I've used a number of ''password safe''
programs, but never really got comfortable with one. Many were too hard to access FAST!
As security became an issue with financial information, eBay, and simply juggling the codes I keep, I needed a secure/friendly program. I currently use ''PassWord Safe.'' It, like others, is easy to use to use, and offers a couple cute options.
It requires ONE MAIN password, which I made REALLY HARD. I can never remember it.
I wrote it on the bottom of my telephone. Sooooo, now when I need a password, pick up phone, remember difficult password and enter long string.
Still looking for ''coolest'' safe out there.

Multi-Level Password System

I simply devise 6 new passwords every 6 months or so, and then apply each one to a different level of security. For example my level 1 password for general unsecure internet usage, level 2 that everyone knows in our home, level 3 that only I know, level 4 for financial programs and sites, level 5 for administrative use on our home network, and level 6 for maximum security only. I make all of the passwords strong (ie a mixture of letters, numbers, and upper/lower case, and not dictionary words) and then memorise all 6, which usually only takes a week or so.

However you might look at an open source/free password manager called KeePass (http://keepass.sourceforge.net/).
The list of it's benefits is far too long and technical to discuss here except to say that you can control the level of security in your passwords and add expiration dates to them and an astonishing array of security features for the price. FREE I carry the program and database on a thumb drive so that I can access my passwords on any windows computer. No easily read remnants of your session are left on the host computer as all entries are encrypted and then overwritten with random 0s when the session ends. There is also protection of the clipboard if you use a copy and paste method of entering passwords. Check it out

I have a Palm OS T3 and purchased their Palm Passwords Plus which is wonderful. I couldn't live without it now.

I have been using PassWord Max for years. It seems to be a complete password management software. When first using it, you may find it troublesome or hard to learn. But with a relative sort time of usage, you will become familiar with the program and using it will be second nature.

Unlike many of the other packages vowing security, he seemed to know his stuff (dead giveaway - "proprietary algorithms" - usually home grown and very leaky encryption). His package offers a number of industry standard encryption approaches, so you can pick your own. I only wish he'd cater more to the soho / private user market, most of the updates since then have been for the corporate user. I also use an old copy of PGP to secure my backups of my PW files.

It's extremely easy for me. I use one password only. BUT, I absolutely never, ever put financial information on my computer, nor on the net. I do not connect for financial information. I buy absolutely nothing online. If it isn't in the stores, they can keep it! It just doesn't happen. So the nefarious jerks can phish all they want. There's nothing to give them.

I use omnipass, a fingerprint verification device. Noone but me has my print and, better than that, I can use any of the 10 prints. Don't think anyone can hack that but I wouldn't bet against it in this day and age.

The best software is with out a doubt is ROBO Form PRO-----Unlimited passwords that can be saved and it can be backed up in case of a crash. Good Job Robo Form Pro
