this is the best program ever!i was using ad-aware pro and it did not pick up the spyware like microsofts program.wow gates hits a homerun and it's free.i must be dreaming!
It is a very good program, it cleans your PC very well, butt it creates gigantic log file.
With XP Clean, I once removed a 1 Gigabyte logfile from Micro Soft Antispyware.
It is called c:\Program Files\Microsoft Anti Spyware\errors.log. It is now 340 MB after using the program twice!
So if you use it, remove those logfiles regulary!
I only run this once a month or so, but my log file is only 1 kb (5 lines of text). You might want to review the log and see if there is a problem somewhere in the program config or on your pc. It seems like a huge file for what it does. BTW, I have gcasserv disabled in the start (using Mike Lin's Startup.cpl), so MSAS only runs when I tell it to, NOT continuously in the background.
The anti spy works well
Glad to have it
Recommend it to everyone

I HAD IT RUNNING ON MY LAPTOP WHEN I WAS RUNNING OUT OF SPACE? I COULD NOT FIND WHAT WAS TAKING UP ALL MY SPACE. I FINALLF FOUND THE CULPRET..."MICROSOFT ANTI SPY " THAT WAS THE PROBLEM NOT THE PROGRAM ITSELF JUST WHAT IT WAS LOGGING IT SELF ON MY PC. I FOUND A TEXT LOG THAT WAS OVER 2 GIGS. AND IT WAS CRAP UNLESS YOU CAN READ GARBAGE??? IT WAS KEEPING A LOG OF ITSELF WHICH WAS TAKING UP ALL MY SPACE ON MY LITTLE 6 GIG LAPTOP HARD DRIVE. WELL I FIXED THAT BY UNINSTALLING IT. IT IS CRAP! AND VERY ANOYING, POP UP CRAP TELLING ME MY HOME PAGE WAS CHANGED EVERY 2 MIN. I GOT FED UP WITH THE JUNK SO I SAID ADIOSE! ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS "CRAP WITH A MICROSOFT? NAME" I USE TO THINK HIGHLY ABOUT MICROSOFT WITH THIS PRODUCT I DIDDENT LIKE IT. THERE ARE BETTER 1'S OUT THERE!

... if it was telling you something was trying to modify your homepage.
And every few minutes too.
Hi,
I will re-install it if someone will tell me how to easily allow .bat files to run without confirming each one the first time it runs.
I tried turning services off but it kept blocking my scripts. I didn't have time to mess around with it, so I just uninstalled.
In the three nights it ran it didn't catch anything that ad-aware 1.05 missed, but I would still leave it on the system if someone will spoon-feed me how to configure it.
Seriously, I will probably re-install when I get around to looking into the problem.
Before MSA-SB I used Spy Bot. I would still use Spy Bot but it seems Microsoft is always ahead of the game. As much as I try to find the wrong in Microsoft since I get so frustrated over the issue that it seems like everyone must try to become compatible with MS but when it comes to MS being compatible with others, MS won't budge. Hmmm, could this be why Bill Gates is so $$$ savvy? Final answer: I have installed it on all my peer's computers and have been using it for a couple of months and I have to give it 5 stars and once again I am trapt in this MS world. Hope this helps some of you with your decision and I apologize for my MS venting time.
I tried Microsoft antispyware and it seemed to work great -- at first. However, soon I began having all kinds of problems with my computer. The only thing that had changed was that I was using Microsoft anti spyware. I uninstalled it and all the problems immediately stopped. I bought CounterSpy and use it very happily with no problems and great results.
I use to use a combination of Adaware SE, Spybot, and Yahoo Toolbar to scan and remove baddies. Since I installed Microsoft Anti-Spy Beta, there is no need to run any of the others as they do not detect anything left behind. Microsoft Anti-Spy Beta is the easiest to use and updates automatically. I forsee the day coming very soon when I will I will slide Spybot and Adaware SE into the trash can. Kind of hate to see them go as they have gotten me through a lot of difficulties in the past. However, Microsoft Anti-Spy Beta is without question the best right now.
I had Giant before Redmond swallowed it. I removed it after the acquisition and I found it accessing the net without my permission, and doing things without teling me. That wasn't a problem before Redmond took it over. I don't want Gates poking around in my PCs, making changes and reporting back on what it finds. The suggestion that he's only doing it in the best interests of his customers is something a slow grammar school kid might believe, but c'mon.
That being joining the SpyNet community and phoning home for updates, which I prefer to having to tell clients to search for updates with Spybot S&D.
I really like this software. After installing it, it cleaned up all sorts of messes that other programs missed. I purchased Spy Blaster and XSoft Spy and they missed all sorts of stuff. MS even went in and cleaned registery keys and restored the OS and IE settings. I really like the warnings it gives you when something tries to change IE settings or add itself to the startup menu without my knowledge.
I recommend this program.
It has no special capabilities. I ran it on a couple of my machines and it did nothing more than any of the top three or four utilities could do. It did run at warp speed compared to "Spyware Doctor" though.
