hi, the problem is i have an external harddrive(USB 2.0), it works fine until yesterday. i plug it into my desktop, then i unplugged the USB cable then plug it into my notebook w/out going through the steps like remove your usb HD. but then, my notebook says the data on the External HD corrupted and unable to read it. i know if i format the HD, i can still using it, but i have around 200 GB data in that external HD, is there a way to fix it or backup all the data in there?
I am using Windows XP pro.
On my USB drive, if it's connected during boot up (power, etc), Windows XP Pro will run a chkdsk on it at boot if need be.
Try that.
In closing, I've taken a lot of flack over "that's not a backup" in regards to external hard disks, but your story keeps showing up in these forums (not just you, but the story.)
I will keep repeating it till I go away. These are not backup devices or "storage." These are just like your internal hard disks with the same dangers.
