I have the same OS, amt. of RAM, and firewall as you except I have cable instead of DSL, and AVG 7.0 as my virus blocker(which I am very content with). All are free. The only program I have bought in 6 years for my Dell is Ace Utilites, which picks up any stray problems that might arise in the Registry, junk files, invalid shortcuts, and empty folders.
What I don't understand is why you feel Yahoo's pop-up blocker ...doesn't seem to be too effective...
I find it 100% effective in blocking any and all pop-ups that come along...so much so that I have to go to 'Recently blocked pop-ups' to access a link I need.
Interesting.
go to www.panicware.com they have a free amazing popup stopper, use it it works, no buts and ifs
Message Subtract is very good. i use it and it is the tops. download it with sharaza and install. if any problems e-mail me and i will try to e-mail it back to you or send a disic with it on....

A sowerby.
I use a combination of programs that work well for me, even though others don't like some of these programs for other reasons.
First of all I use IE6 with SP2. When I just attempted the popup test website mentioned elsewhere in this thread IE stopped about 1/3 of the popups.
I also use Norton Internet Security 2005 (NIS), which has a popup stopper built in. I don't know if it actually stopped any of the popups, but only 2 of the less common popup tests weren't stopped when I tested.
Besides this I have the Google Toolbar (3 beta) running, but it indicates that none of the popups during the test got that far.
I also run Microsoft Antispyware Beta and Tea Timer (from Spybot), so these might have also helped.
One warning is that if you use NIS2005 and Popup Stopper, you will not be able to update Popup Stopper without completely disabling NIS2005.
It seems that no one ever mentions one solution to popups (although I haven't read every message in this thread).
Turn off Javascript. For years I have surfed with Javascript off as much as possible, which for me is the vast majority of the time, and there simply are no popups. I realize it may not be a solution for everyone, but for me it works very well. It all depends on where you do most of your surfing and, to at least some degree, what you do on those sites (some functions may require JS while others don't). For example, I've had no problem reading the messages here with JS off, but it looks like I'll have to turn it on to post this reply, after which I'll turn it off again.
Also, I use Netscape 7.2 (which was created from Mozilla 1.4 or so) as my browser as much as possible, which, again, for me is the vast majority of the time, and when I do have JS on, the built-in popup blocker seems to work pretty well. I don't remember anything ever getting by it, but like I said, I have JS off most of the time, so most of the time there's nothing for it to block.

I once faced such problems since the internet is full of pop - ups. I got to know a very powerful pop-up blocker. it is called "POP UP STOPPER PROFESSIONAL" since I got this popup and ad blocker, i have not been experiencing and popups, ads and combination of Symantec Antivirus has given me peace of mind. So i will recommend it for you. Just go to their site and purchase one.
