I just posted mine--before reading anyone elses--I delete em

by jpjones - 5/24/05 11:50 PM In reply to: Uninstall down to the bottom line by ssggrkin

I delete em just like you do--the registry being one of the most important steps. I also look in Services for unwanted additions & don't delete there, I disable em in sevices. In start up, I deselect em then track em down in the registry. You mentioned reboot--I forgot to mention it but I always do it (any system change). I don't shut down too often, I use standby instead.

I use a program called "Your Uninstaller 2002", though sometimes I do use the uninstaller that came with the particular program I am deleting.

I just drag the program to the "trash". OS X makes it easy.

My uninstall regimen

by nutegunray13 - 5/25/05 4:32 AM In reply to: How do you uninstall a program on your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I simply remove the program with Add/Remove Programs and then search the HD for the root folder and any other folders/files with the software name and/or the manufacturers name and derivatives of each. I usually find a couple of things that can be wiped out and do so. This leaves the registry open (I did go in the registry once to finish off removing some malware once, which was easy to find) but I get 95 - 99% of the program uninstalled.

I have a Mac so....

by audiopainter - 5/25/05 4:36 AM In reply to: How do you uninstall a program on your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

No uninstaller necessary here. I just throw any program into the trash and empty it...THAT'S IT, program uninstalled. Mac programs are all SELF-CONTAINED which means you don't have bits and pieces scattered about your system that also need to be removed like Windows' little .dll files and such which require an uninstaller to locate them.

Uninstalling Windows programs

by vdoudna - 5/25/05 7:00 AM In reply to: How do you uninstall a program on your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

Step 1: Run Windows Add/Remove Programs

Step 2: Reboot

Step 3: Run Registry Mechanic to remove any leftover registry keys associated with the program.

Step 4: Reboot

Step 5: Look for any remaining folders and manually delete them.

CCleaner , good uninstaller and cleaner

by Pcfreakske2000 - 5/25/05 7:09 AM In reply to: Uninstalling Windows programs by vdoudna

I mostly use CCleaner to keep my computer clean from unused data and stuff.
Good software product and it's freeware.

It also has a feature that allows you to scan your Windows Register and also remove programs completely , without leaving a trace.

You can find it at http://www.ccleaner.com

How I Delete Programs

by JerandVicP - 5/25/05 8:06 AM In reply to: How do you uninstall a program on your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

1) I use the add/remove programs button
2) I go into the drive program file and delete any remaining folders for that program
3) I restart my computer and then run "regedit" and
on the tool bar for the Registry Editor I select the Edit button and then from the drop down menu I type the name of the program and click find and delete any highlighted registry keys left over. If the program has two names i.e. Norton and Symantec, I remove any leftover programs or registry keys.

*CAREFUL I do not recommend deleting registry keys unless you are absolutely sure they are related to the program that has been removed.

I Use V-Com System Suite 5.....

by AeroSpaceRocks - 5/25/05 8:43 AM In reply to: How do you uninstall a program on your computer? by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

It's not only my uninstaller, it's also my antivirus (Trend engine), firewall, registry cleaner, defrager, and disk wipe. It beats Norton's and McAfee's Suite any day of the week.

Delete it directly out of my folder
Use Windows Add/Remove programs utility
Use the software's original uninstaller
