I have to use pause...

by sbogucki2002 - 8/16/07 5:04 AM In reply to: SanDisk MP3 by ajhinckley

I have a e250r. If I forget to pause before powering off, I go back to the beginning of the file. I keep a clamp (looks like a metal clothes pin) to hold the ff button until it gets to near my desired place. (I know, it's Polish engineering [which I am], but if I'm driving, I can't hold the button properly long enough without getting a cramp or twitching right into the next file).

If you aren't saving as mp3 when you split the NetLibrary's wma file, it may retain drm. I use TotalRecorder, which plays the licensed file through Windows Media Player, and rerecords it as an mp3 - without the drm crap. Then if I can't get it played during the time allowed, it doesn't expire. It has to play in real time to convert, but I just set it up to run over night (and most of the next day). It will cut it up anyway you want, and save it as whatever you want, at whatever sample rate you want (makes a difference in the final file sizes). I recommend it.

My local library announced it was discontinuing its NetLibrary affiliation because of the continuing hassle of getting the downloads to work, license, etc. The problem is, neither NetLibrary or Overdrive (the library's other service) has a decent enough catalog for anyone with a voracious listening habit. I still go to the library regularly to borrow books on cd, and use AudioGrabber (free) to convert to smaller mp3's. It's a hassle, but not as bad as listening to corporate radio these days.

sansa mp3

You don't have to hold down the fast forward manually to get to where you want to be in an audio book. Just lock the player while holding down the fast forward button. Then just watch for it to get to the place you want to be, unlock the player and continue listening.

I have a sansa e250 with 4gb.

I tried that...

by sbogucki2002 - 8/16/07 5:06 AM In reply to: sansa mp3 by stinkyda

on my e250r. When I unlocked it, it kept on FF'ing. When I tried to stop it, it lost its place. How do you stop without screwing it up all over again?

mp3 sansa

I apologize. It was my husband's that that worked on and his is an E260 4GB. On my E25, 2 GB it does exactly as you say - it keeps on fast forwarding. Don't you think that somebody out there could make one of these things for people who use them for audio books? We're not all music buffs!!

Sansa, are you listening??

Sansa - use of hold button

by xarophti - 8/21/07 7:19 PM In reply to: sansa mp3 by stinkyda

wow! what a great tip! I never tried using my hold button during fast forward in a long track. I've been loading long podcasts lately and this tip will help with my c250. Returning to the beginning of the track after using pause before power off must be a quirk of the c150, because it doesn't happen with the 250...

use of hold button

by xarophti - 8/21/07 7:24 PM In reply to: Sansa - use of hold button by xarophti

except I just tried it and it's not working. Once the hold screen goes off, it's in regular play mode, not ff. Maybe the latest firmware update made this not workable?

Best audible MP3 player

by HotAgent - 5/11/05 11:34 PM In reply to: Best, current MP3 player for audio books...... by skywagon

id say the nomad zen xtra if you dont mind the bulk. it has a huge capacity, very low price, can resume the track where you left it when turned on, and can set bookmarks. the only problem is that it only supports audible 4 files. 1,2, and 3 wont work.

ooops forgot to mention...

the xtra can also alter the playback speed of the book without changing the pitch, a very useful feature for audible files but useless for music.

Creative Muvo N200

by globe_trotter - 5/20/05 8:39 PM In reply to: ooops forgot to mention... by HotAgent

I have a Creative Muvo N200 and it does picks up where I leave an audio book. Mind you it's an MP3 audio book and not Audible book, which I guess will work the same.

Creative Muvo N200

by mikescan - 5/28/05 5:54 AM In reply to: Creative Muvo N200 by globe_trotter

When you say "picks up a where I leave an audio book", is that done by making a bookmark or does it occur when you turn off the unit? I e-mailed creative labs about their Muvo Tx Fm, regarding audio books. They told me that if you turn off that unit it will keep your place for 24 hours. Does the N200 hold a place for longer than 24 hours?

bookmarking=again

No one answered the question whether the Rio Carbon bookmarked directly rather than picking up where you leave off. Is there a list of those mp3 players that do that? I've looked at a number of them on line and that feature is never mentioned.

Creative Muvo txfm player

by emichel - 10/23/05 4:28 PM In reply to: Creative Muvo N200 by mikescan

I have the Creative muvo txfm player that I listen to NetLibrary audio books. To return to where you stopped, press the "off/stop" button quickly, one time. Which stops the playing, then to turn it off press and hold the "off" button. When you turn the player on again, it will go to where you left off. As long as you don't listen to music or something else in between.

Gateway Photo Juke Box

by pipertom - 8/24/05 7:36 AM In reply to: Best, current MP3 player for audio books...... by skywagon

I purchased the Photo Jukebox for my wife to listen to audio books on. It does not resume play from where it was turned off, and does not have the bookmark feature. Do not purchase the Gateway if you want to listen to audio books!
I am now trying to decide between the Ipod mini, or the Rio Carbon.
