Need a camera that will last !
by Mattkcc - 4/19/05 1:50 PMBought a Canon A70 about a year and a half ago. Really enjoyed the camera but then a month ago the lens wouldn't retract fully when turned off. Next the focus became unreliable. Then a week ago the lens quit zooming and finally the auto-focus quit all together. I miss my Nikon F2 was still going strong 30 years when I sold it to go digital. Who makes a digital that will last at least a few years it cost more to fix them then what they are worth.
I think you have to go back to film.

I see film cameras that you can get serviced (same dollar but less a percent of the new costs) and the nice thing about film is that you think harder about each shot.
Nikon makes some very nice DSLRs you can get repaired.

Was it on the prosumer level or just every now and then? It is no excuse either way that the camera conked out after 1.5 years but I was just curious.
You might need something with a little more heft. I took a look at the camera at http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/A70/A70A.HTM and it seems to be more of a novice/family kind of camera.
The good news is that whatever digital camera you get next (and you will) it will be a better machine at a lower price.
Why? Because you are gonna research that sucker up/down and sideways before you buy.
