My Norton Anti Virus program has found the bloodhound-unknown virus on my computer.
I have gone through the usual proceedure of quaranteen and the delete. Howver it still shows that the virus remains. Each time I do a fresh scan it shows up this same virus again.
How can i get rid of it?
The probable cause is that you didn't turn off System Restore during the removal. System Restore caches files, so that if your system crashes you can restore it to the last working state. Norton Anti-Virus does not remove System Restore cache files.
System Restore is turned on by default, so unless you turn it off, even if you do the removal, the infected file will still exist in the System Restore cache. So, before starting the removal, right-click on My Computer, then click the System Restore tab. Then check the "Turn off System Restore" box and click OK. Do the removal, then reboot your computer - preferably a cold reboot. Then, go back to the System Restore window and clear the box you checked to turn System Restore back on.
If this doesn;t work, try manual removal. Go to the Symantec Security Response page - http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html and click on B and scroll down to Bloodhound (ignore the other Bloodhound versions). On the Bllodhound page are general instructions for manually removing the infected file and associated settings. Again, you need to switch off System Restore during the removal.
By the way, turning off System Restore is good practice for all virus removals. Just remember to turn it back on after you reboot.
