I have decided that the Bose system most likely will not work well with the MCE. I think it would be better to have a receiver that is a little less intelligent and let the MCE do all the processing. So what a/v receivers would work well with MCE. I know that there are media extenders to pass sound through the house. But I only see using these when there is video to stream as well. There are areas that you want to be able to run different "audio" signals too (possible even at the same time) but in no way really require a media extender. All these speakers would in general be homerun wired back to the MCE unit allowing them to be plugged into whatever unit. What unit out there would allow several zones and work well with Windows MCE?
Look into the Onkyo TX-NR801
from the Onkyo site...
While limiting your A/V receiver to home theater use is something that other companies may do, Onkyo has taken a decidedly different course in the creation of an entirely new category for home entertainment. A masterpiece of technology and functionality, the TX-NR801 includes a value-added feature only we can provide—Net-Tune™ home network capability. The Ethernet connection* on the back lets you stream your MP3, WAV and WMA files from your computer, in addition to being your passport to the music of the world via Internet radio. The TX-NR801 further distances itself from the rest with high-grade parts that provide a smooth and seamless listening experience from the latest generation in digital surround sound formats. Just what you'd expect from a company committed to providing you with the latest in state-of-the-art features. When you’re looking for the ultimate in movie and music reproduction, unlock the full potential of an A/V receiver and expand your home entertainment experience with the TX-NR801.
Not sure about WMC compatabilty but with the ability to control internet radio and streaming audio I'd say it is a close bet this one has some features that will work with it.
kpmagoo,
Have you tried to use a WIFI stream with your Onkyo receiver. If so, what setup do you have?
