by corail - 3/25/05 5:26 PMI just ordered an Inspiron 1000 notebook and I am considering dial-up internet access. Can I use my Motorola V66 to get online and how?
Also, I will receive a "Dell 1300 Wireless PC Card" with my order but I don't really know what it is good for...I really feel lost but I need to get connected real quick.
Please help!...In the meantime I'm going thru "PCs for Dummies", I really need some help...please

From what I can tell, your Inspiron probably has a modem included, in which case all you will need is a phone cord and maybe a splitter to connect two phone lines to one jack in the wall.
Your wireless PC card isn't going to be much use for dial-up, nor is your V66 (no connection between your laptop and your cell phone).

i should think as well that you will have to sign up with an ISP company so you can access the web!!
After which it is easy to configure your conection details using the XP windows new connection install wizard,

by Tech geek - 3/25/05 11:57 PM In reply to: Intenet Access... by corailif you want to use dial up just get a phone chord and a splitter unless you want to switch it manually every time and plug in from there most computers have a setup process if you want to go through that.i too suggest getting a better connection cable or dsl. good luck

Your Dell 1300 Wireless card is built in and can be used if you have either DLS or cable wireless internet access. If you don't have that type of service, don't worry. The card is there if you ever do.
You can find adapters for phone lines almost anywhere. You can get any size from two to five. The adapter plugs into the wall and your phone, computer, fax machine, etc., plugs into it.

Download the patch described in the Microsoft article, "MS03-039: A Buffer Overrun in RPCSS Could Allow an Attacker to Run Malicious Programs (Q824146)" (a 1,508Kb file) for the applicable version of WinXP used and keep it on hand and install before ever accessing the Internet for Updates with IE. Should you format and reinstall XP original at a later date, then install it first unless the version used already has been patched through or includes the SP2.
