WIN.XP SERVICES.MSC

by jackg304 - 3/22/05 11:33 AM

I have problems with slow moving Dell 4600 pc. Someone told me to check SERVICES.MSC & see what was started. I checked & almost everything is started. Any ideas of what I can disable,or is there somewhere I can go online for help?
Thanks for the help,
Eugene.

Difficult

Here's a web site that lists all the services that can run on start-up;

http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

and it has a search facility so you can enter specific services, but it is a laborious job.

You could check your computer services manually. At this site if you click S for Services and scroll down until you get to "Services - Listed and Explained", are instructions for doing this.

Very Difficult

You don't give any idea of what problelms you are having (I did hear of some whith DELL, but not this).

Basicaly, can you tell us what sort of problems you're having, I don't know about MarkFlax, but I've got about 40 seperate start-up sequences - mainly because of other programmes I have running "invisibly" on the surface, there are only a few (about 5 I think) basic systems meeded to actually run the machine, it just depends though on what programmes you are running on start-up.

of whch half are disabled, or and half the rest are manual.

Other than the pesky Messenger Service and such like, I've never bothered to really knuckle down and sort through them one by one. It all got a bit boring after a while and as my machine is running smoothly I decided to leave well alone.
