Computer newbies: Newegg vs Tiger direct
I've bought from both

But I first bought a few components from NewEgg.com two years ago, and their prices were very close to Tiger Direct's.
It seems that Tiger Direct might have a slightly wider variety of IT products, but New Egg might be giving everyone a lower shipping fee. And one thing I don't usually like at Tiger Direct is that too many of their low prices are only available via rebate, while you never know if you can trust one.

Even after untangling the pins, it didn't work. Looking at Tiger Direct's return policy, getting an adjustment would have required me to ship the board to China for diagnosis, etc. etc. and would have cost many times what the board cost. So I simply threw it in the trash and resolved not to buy any more boards from Tiger Direct.

TD is big on rebates, which in the past worked fine, but my last purchase had two rebates and only one has been paid(after 4 months now), have given up on the other. I will probaly never buy from TD agian, unless they have a great price with no rebates(highly unlikely).
On the other hand NE has been consistently low priced on product and has a much better website for research on the products you want. Lately their prices have been creeping up(I guess getting cocky now their sales are up).

So when I am dealing with a winner why change?

I'm glad you've had good experiences with TD, you're one of the lucky few.

I thought 16 years of patronizing them meant something--Until this year when I had to make a major purchase and they showed their "Finger," so to speak!
The supervisor, "Eddie" is rude, the customer service people....inept... and the people who work in the corporate office are just downright stereotypically LAZY! 16 years and offering TigerDirects website and catalogs for the last 16 years (Thousands of dollars in revenue?) does not mean ANYTHING to them!

I've also bought things TD had that I could not find elsewhere. It mainly depended on what I was ordering and which had it at the best price (including shipping)- I use others as well after shopping around. Bottom line is that both are good sources and beat anything locally. I've never had a need to send anything back or get additional service so I can't comment on that aspect.

That means it is not the real price, but price after rebate. IT IS A SCAM! I managed to get 1 rebate after a year of threatening them. One rebate out of many. I quit shopping with them.
Newegg is amazing. I often read the feedback on the items before I buy. Nice feature! The quote I always see there is: "Newegg Rocks!". Go and see for yourself.
Anyway, shipping is usually free or a few bucks, and FAST! One person's comment was: "How did they get it here so fast? I think they use teleportation". RMA's are fast also. Great company with a fantastic reputation.
The next best is Zip Zoom Fly. Tiger Direct is Minor League compared.

They saved me from the nightmare of further identity theft becaused they called immediately: that let me cancel my credit card and register with the credit bureaus to prevent anyone else from stealing my ID.
Without Tiger Direct's phone call I would have never known my ID had been stolen.
I have purchased from both NewEgg and Tiger: they both do a fine job of shipping good products. But when your entire financial future is on the line, Tiger comes through with the BEST fraud detection of the dozens of online sites I use.

I have made manny manny purchases from Newegg and always have been happy with the final result of these purchases. I also made one purchase from Tiger. The purchase at Tiger included several items. Tiger's service was very very SLOW, Tiger overcharged me every way they could think of. One item was NOT priced correctly on the order, another item was DOA (dead on arrival) and one was damaged in shipping because of POOR packing. I tried to communicate with them to correct the various problems but was always ignored every time I communicated with them. They do NOT answer eMAIL, PHONE CALLS ETC. I did have to send back one item purchased from Newegg, but it was handled quickly and fairly to my complete satisfaction. My suggestion is AVOID Tiger and buy from Newegg if service, fast shipping and REAL service after the sale is needed.

When I received it & tried to put in the extra memory I found out that it wasn't the system I ordered & paid for. It was as system 2 levels lowered then what I contracted for. Also the memory couldn't be added cause it also was wrong memory. I called them up & complained that They sent me wrong system. They sent out several dozen of these systems hopeing that the customers wouldn't find out what they did. They wanted to charge me more for a so called "service call", correct memory, several other items not in the system I ordered. I told them I wanted the system I ordered. They finualy said they would send me the items I needed but never did change the system I received from them. I sent back the memory & had to settle for the lower speed memory. Also I NEVER received any rebate for the system or memory.

I bought from TD mainly because they offered better prices AFTER a rebate and sometimes the item was either free or close ot it AFTER the rebate. The only reason I emphasize after the rebate is because rebates from TigerDirect don't even exist unless you want to spend months and mnonths fighting with them. My guess is this is one way to get someone to buy from them. They offer a non-existent rebate that make the price so unbelievably low you can't resist buying from them. After fighting for this non-existent rebate you give up and they pocket the full price. They have always had outrageously high shipping prices too, which I have attempted contacting them about. Funny how they won't answer questions related to the extremely high shipping prices. I won't even think of recommending an outfit as crooked as TigerDirect to ANYONE. My only hope is they go out of business becuse they have cheated so many people. What I do recommend is to go to http://www.planetfeedback.com and look up TigerDirect there and see what many others have to say about these worthless crooks! Newegg has been the exact opposite and I cannot recommend them enough to everyone. It's almost a guarantee you will never be ripped off by Newegg!!!

I wouldn't touch Tiger Direct with a 10 foot ethernet wire. I had a terrible experience with them once and I'm never going back.
