New Egg For Me !!

by Old Bob - 3/8/05 1:57 PM In reply to: I have dealt with TigerDirect... by Edward ODaniel

I have shopped both Tiger Direct and New Egg.

While Tiger Direct will deliver the parts you order, they will renege on ALL REBATES !! They got me for $20.

New Egg is fast, reasonably priced and doesn't use any phony come-on's.

ME TOO!

by Nick_T - 3/16/05 8:29 AM In reply to: New Egg For Me !! by Old Bob

Newegg, hands down-As a matter of principle[and from past experience],I will NOT order anything that includes a "mail-in rebate",unless the upfront price is attractive,as I never expect to see the rebate. If our government ran as well as Newegg's ordering/shipping process, millions of beaurecrats would be out on the street! NewEgg

by Steven Haninger - 3/8/05 5:22 PM In reply to: Newegg vs Tiger direct by glb613

They ship from both coasts. I've gotten a few items from ZipZoomFly (formerly GoogleGear). I've had zero problems with either. Package tracking is easy and usually beats ETA by 1 day.

Newegg vs Tiger direct

by Stan Chambers - 3/8/05 9:49 PM In reply to: Newegg vs Tiger direct by glb613

I've used both with good results, but Newegg's FedEx saver shipping simply can't be beat.
I recently ordered a mainboard on a Friday morning, it was at my door about 2:00 P.M. the following Monday. Total shipping charge $4.99.

Tiger Direct charges more than that for standard ground shipping and transit time is at least twice as long.
But I must say that TD occasionally has some offers that I can't pass on.

depends on what you want

i have found the tiger direct has generally better prices on monitors, but newegg is better with pretty much everything else.

I bought it from Newegg

by glb613 - 3/9/05 3:41 PM In reply to: depends on what you want by krazydonutboy

I needed a video card for a computer I'm building out of old parts. My parents never kept up with technology and none of the programs they use are compatible with XP. Unfortunately for them, their computers are beginning to fail. I took out all of the good parts from a computer that died and I'm combining them with a case, motherboard, power supply and processor from an old computer I got from my sister. Between the two of us, we had everything for a complete computer except a video card. I didn't need anything expensive or high end. I sure hope what I ordered works.

newegg...

by GMartin2R - 3/10/05 11:49 PM In reply to: Newegg vs Tiger direct by glb613

i bought the majority of my parts from newegg and recieved them much quicker than i did from tiger direct. i only bought my ram, a fan, and a anti-static wristband from them. most of the remaining parts was from newegg. i like the shipping times even with the express saver. plus newegg seems to be cheaper most of the time.

Tiger

by Bgrd68 - 3/11/05 3:38 AM In reply to: Newegg vs Tiger direct by glb613

I have bought 4 or 5 tiger systems over the last 6or 7 years and don't ask me why I keep buying from them every system has had problems from non functioning modems to bad hard drives ,monitors that did not even turn on,and everything in between. Twice they have replaced the system and that just resulted in starting over with a new list of problems. The final straw for me was when I ordered a laptop ,and given my preveous problems with their products I spent the extra for the extended service plan. I returned the computer within 3 days of recieving it ,they issued me a credit for the computer, but refused to issue a refund for the 3 year extended service plan. Don't ask me what I am going to do with an extended service plan on a computer I returned, but Tiger's story was that the problems were with the computer, not the service plan so there was no reason for them to issue a refund .

Tiger v's NewEgg

by monkeyhouse - 3/16/05 8:14 AM In reply to: Tiger by Bgrd68

"...Tiger's story was that the problems were with the computer, not the service plan so there was no reason for them to issue a refund."

That's reason alone not to deal with TigerDirect! That really is terrible customer service. Refunding a service plan shouldn't even be questioned if the product the plan is for is returnd also.
I've just placed an order with NewEgg.com BEFORE reading this. Seems I may have been lucky not using TigerDirect, safe to say I wont consider buying from them in the future.

As for NewEgg, I placed my order yesterday afternoon and it was already being shipped less than 2 hours later (according to the FedEx tracker). I did not expect this as I order a whole bunch of components to build a new PC. ETA is Friday afternoon - good stuff.

NewEgg is the better

by cmarch - 3/11/05 5:37 AM In reply to: Newegg vs Tiger direct by glb613

NewEgg is far better.
Always better prices, better service, and fast shipping that is inexpensive.

Where ever you buy, there is always a chance of getting a 'bad' product. With that said, the few problems I had with purchased products from New Egg were always handled quickly and easily.

Hands down, NewEgg is best

Newegg or Tiger

by Silver Eagle - 3/11/05 5:40 AM In reply to: Newegg vs Tiger direct by glb613

I have purchased parts from Dartek, which has since been bought by Tiger Direct, and had no problems with them. As I live in Florida which is where Tiger is based out of I would have to pay tax on everything. I have also purchased a number of items from Newegg. Their shipping rates are low and I have received orders placed Monday morning (EST) by noon Thursday (EST)and they were shipped from the west coast!

I have done only one RMA with Newegg and received credit within 4 days of the receipt of the package in California.

If you use any of the comparison shopping sites more often than not Newegg will come out the cheapest based on product price and shipping cost. They work for me.

Discounts, hmmmm

by Falcon7 - 3/11/05 6:11 AM In reply to: Newegg vs Tiger direct by glb613

Newegg is new to me,but I have done business with TigerDirect on several occasions and have been impressed with the wide variety of products available and the turn around time is good. As with any reseller-especially discount- the prime directive is READ all the options and info of the type of product you want; with discount houses the products are commonly not the latest model or version-so again I say READ; another thing I've learned the, hard way,is don't buy anything that involves a mail in rebate-keep looking.
