Windows XP: Regedit

by ghinfla - 3/3/05 8:05 AMAbout half the time I get a regedit.exe-dll failed to close message during shutdown. Continues with shutdown and doesn't seem to effect operation but would like to fix it. Have opened regedit.exe but made no changes as no savvy enough to mess with registry. Suggestions?

http://www.help2go.com/modules.php?name=HJTDetective may be of interest for research into your issue since SPYWARE is too pervasive for the users of Internet Explorer.
The message has been noted in machines with pests so its time to do the usual Spybot, Adaware, Housecall scans then look at the Detective above for more clues.
You are using Firefox or Mozilla?

XP using Mozilla except for URLs that will only accept MS IE like Housecall. Ran the scan and no threats but it hung up before giving me summmary. Have run SpyBot and Ad Aware as well as SpyBlaster. All negative so don't think this is spyware.
Then... a typo in your post.

The post is correct BUT the dll add may not be relevant. I ran the same Google search and came up with some interesting stuff but problem remains. The original regedit file is 131Kb (2001) and looks as though a 143Kb file came with SP2 in 8/04.
You'll want to be... Spyware free.

If you perform the usual scans/removals with Adaware, Spybot, and Housecall, then we proceed with the HIJACKTHIS tests noted at http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6142-0.html?forumID=5&threadID=89991&messageID=1012308
There is no "do this" cure for your issue. Even less if you supply any typographic error in your message or don't put the message in "quoted format".
However, the noted scans and HIJACKTHIS provide insight into what's going on under the hood.

Hijackthis was one of the programs I found when searching. Did help me remove an entry relating to "user" that was wrong but have to admit I am beyond my knowledge base with this one. Unless there is a program that can fix the problem, think I will live with it as it seems to be doing no damage other than the warning screen at shutdown.
