Satellite resolutions

by goofytechie - 2/25/05 10:49 AM In reply to: Resolutions, extra question by dougjp

are like DVD 720x480 NTSC MPEG2 is used
so its greater than using Antennae at its 350 wide
Cable TV was same as Antennae at 350 wide,
that is why in Canada Bell Expressvu Satellite
is much better quality TV,
hey its 4x Resolutuion Like DVD's
Now in stores they cannot display Full Hi Def TV
at its 1920x1080 resolution
Many TV's on display cannot display higher than 1024x768 at present,
PC CRT Monitors go much higher at present,
upto 2048 wide pixels
Best test in any store is ask to connect to a PC
then its resolution can be seen,
Expect blurry printing at higher than 1024x768 on all
LCD TV's,DLP has highest resolution at present in TV's
hope above facts help

Question for Retired Techie Keith

by noGILLS - 5/4/06 4:05 AM In reply to: Satellite resolutions by goofytechie

Hi Keith,

Might you be able to suggest what the best Panasonic model HD or EDTV I could buy for my money? It seems like there exists a large price differential btw. say the PWD8UK and the XV530. If you have any suggestions for what you recommend, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Dazed and confused,
Lisa

Hmmmm...

by Exotic_BMale - 2/27/05 12:49 AM In reply to: EDTV is HDTV! by kilbride

That was a pretty high tech summary of the two Formats..but...
You forgot the part about making sure the EDTV is HDCP Compliant?
If not, HD is broadcast (licensed) and if his EDTV (Like mine) doesn't have this rating it will allow the signal to show HD Content(nor licnensed..(ie..DVD's) thru the component nor DVI inputs..there's a bigggggg difference in EDTV and HDTV? (Funny, backups of DVD's work fine? Why? Licensing has been removed in backups.

hdtv

the people who say there is no difference have not seen an hdtv plasma. you may want to look into a vizio plasma 42 inch screen. i had my doubts about a plasma so cheap, but icould not be happier. i bought at costco for $1999.00 (that price was with a $400 dollar coupon.

Vizio HDTV

by HTHMAN - 2/27/05 10:01 PM In reply to: hdtv by disneydriver

I also bought one of these at Costco. It is great. Lots of inputs and a really great HD picture with some of the best blacks I have seen in dark scenes. NO HD tuner installed, but am using a Dish network HD receiver for both Dish and off the air antenna HD programming. At 2000 dollars, this was a steal. Side by side with an ED set, it blows it away

Vizio seems awesome but not next to Panasonic (even EDTV)

by Gregmeister - 11/22/05 6:08 PM In reply to: Vizio HDTV by HTHMAN

I had a Vizio and yes the inputs are awesome, but the image quality (ghosting) and dark scenes DO NOT even come close to a Panasonic. I bought a EDTV Panasonic since the HD programing on Dish Network is limited and no local HDTV chanels. Granted that some of those HDTV looked great up-close, but from my couch (8-10 feet) EDTV looks better, sharper and normal TV+DVDs look much better. The dark scenes do not even compare to panny. I got money back since the EDTV is much cheaper at Costco. Maybe when Panny has a HDTV in a year or so and the programming improves than I will buy that, but for now EDTV rocks.

hd over ed

by acebreathe - 3/2/05 12:08 AM In reply to: EDTV vs. HDTV 42 inch plasma by paindoc66

Sorry to get into this so late but whoever told you that there was no significant difference between the two formats is a little off. The resolution of EDTV is never going to be better than a DVD. 42" is plenty big enough to get the full capabilities of HDTV. Do a same source comparison of the two before you buy.

DVD on EDTV and HDTV

by perezra - 3/2/05 5:00 PM In reply to: hd over ed by acebreathe

The resolution of DVDs is the same on both, EDTV and HDTV. DVD shown on an EDTV plasma and an HDTV plasma will have the same amount of detail. Check this article from CNET reviews:

Interesting Article

Next year the EDTV vrs HDTV may will be history, since EDTV plasmas are on the decline. It's more cost effective to just make just one type of display. So have all of the production lines setup to make HDTV pannels.
I ran in to some I knew who works for Panasoinc, I will post on our conversation latter.
