I bought a Vizio 1080p hdtv and I'm just wondering if anybody else did and if the picture qaulity is as good as other brands. Whats the best brand to buy.
A lot of people here like them, and a lot of people here hate them. You be the judge. Why do you want to know the "best brand" to buy after you've already purchased a Vizio? The Sony and Samsung LCDs get very good reviews here, but they cost a lot more than Vizio.
have them made under contract in Asia. They have been aggressive & each years models has had specs with substantial improvement. Their large sales make a point that they are a player - particularly a lower price make that is gaining good acceptance.
Enjoy yours.
Most of the name brands are great. One of the best are Samsungs with a contrast ratio of 50,000 to 1. But the best comparison authority is Consumer Report. You can usually find them for free at the library.
We bought a 32 inch LCD soon after they appeared at Sam's. After about three months, it made a loud screeching noise and sound quit working and the picture was in shades of blue.
We called the Visio support center and they sent us a new set.
We have owned TVs of various sorts and brands for more than 50 years. We decided to return it to Sam's and we bought a Sony. We paid more, but we have never had a problem with a Sony product.
Bought a Vizio 46" LCD TV a year ago from Costco and have had zero problems. Two teenagers play video games with their friends almost every weekend and the TV performs fine. Picture is great. I would buy again.
By the way, my experience with Sony products has not been so good. Besides I believe most of the products originate from the same factories.
Bought my first Vizio LCD three years ago and it's on every day, all day long. Second one was the 50" plasma and it went out before a year was up. Couldn't find my receipt for purchase at Sam's Club so Vizio customer service contacted Sam's to search their database using my member number. Unfortunately, Sam's had just cleared their records, so Vizio sent us the parts to have it repaired. The third one, a 47", was bought again, at Sam's, from their open box "Returns" table. We've had zero problems with it and would recommend Vizio LCD without hesitation. Plasma...not so sure. I will say the times I've contacted Vizio, located in California, I've had outstanding help from technical support and from customer service.
I'm on the market for an LCD TV right now, but have never owned one. Personally, I think the Vizio is a great choice. The XVT series has the latest features and a really good picture. The only down side that I found (which you will hear in other reviews as well) is that the black level isn't as dark as it should be. Compared to other sets, the Vizio looks a little grey and washed out. A Sony or a Samsung definitely looks better, but costs much more. At home, you're not looking at them side by side, so if you're happy with the picture, then you've done well. On the other hand, if you're very picky about the picture, then you might have done better to spend a little more on a Sony or Samsung. Do note, if you buy at a warehouse like Costco, Vizio sells their best models there, but Sony creates special models for Costco, etc., that are not as good as their standard models. Personally, I'll probably spring for a Sony, but the Visio is a really good value. I've also heard good things about the company overall.
inferior to their regular model numbers. It is just a common case of private branding which any authorized dealer who will buy a certain number can get. Frankly, they often want that because it usually differs from regular models by having one or a few minor features packaged so the dealer doesn't have unrelenting pressure to meet or beat other sellers advertised prices.
Anyhow, Vizio has come a long way in rather short time & are now very close to equal as to lots of specs. The company has done a good job of creating the specs then having them manufactured in Asia under contract rather than going the route of having their own factories.
While I agree with you in principle, that that's true most of the time, I encountered an actual example of a downgraded unit at Costco. Their version of the Sony 40" LCD TV had poorer specs than the equivalent "standard" Sony version and was no cheaper. It was like buying last years model at this years prices. It was about a year ago, so unfortunately, I don't remember the exact model or I would post the comparison.
I took the wife to buy our first 50" TV. I had already researched the plasma TV's and all that I had read about the Vizio was positive. When we walked into the store I asked the wife if she could tell any differences between the various models on display. She said she could tell slight differences, but the differences were very slight. As we looked at them a little further she was quite shocked at the differences in prices. We both agreed that the slight differences between broadcast quality were not worth the hundreds, most time thousands, of dollars you would have to pay. We enjoyed our first Vizio so much that we went out this year and bought another 50" Vizio for the basement! And on the plus side, this second 50" Vizio was priced even less than the first and came packaged with surround sound system to boot! The most important thing I have found is that you have to have good signal input no matter what. You remember the old saying "garbage in, garbage out"? Well if you have good input and plug in through the HDMI, (and make sure you read CNET's guide to purchasing HDMI cables which points out the high dollar cables are not all that they're cracked up to be) I think you will be more than satisfied with a Vizio - especially when you have the extra monies to purchase a decent HD DVD player to go along with it! Pleasant viewing, and a Merry Christmas to all
The Vizio seems to be just as good as the others with a lower price. First I purchased a Magnavox 37" because it was the only sub $1000 37" with 1080. The picture is great and no problems, only one HDMI port is a disadvantage if you would like to hook your cable box to one HDMI port and DVD to the other. Next I added a 32" Sony Bravalia. It also has a great picture, 2 HDMI ports as well as PC port and just about anything else you want to hook up. My son now has added a 32" Vizio and is just as pleased with it as he was before playing XBOX 360 on the Magnavox or Sony. So the bottom line is Vizio will be my next purchase based on my viewing experience in the past and price.
