iTunes replacements for iPod Touch

by LOTRFREAK16 - 11/9/08 3:19 PM

I'm trying to find an iTunes replacement that will install on the iPod Touch so I don't have to worry about iTunes. Also, could people recommend iTunes replacements that install on the computer for the iPod Touch so I can look at that route too.

Thanks!

See if FLOOLA is supporting the touch yet?

Yes, I did

I tried to find the answer, but some said yes, and some said no. I think it might, but I'm not sure. I'm just trying to not use iTunes. If I have to, I will, but I'm just trying to stay away.

What About Copy Trans?

by LOTRFREAK16 - 11/13/08 7:53 AM In reply to: Keep looking. by R. Proffitt Moderator

Does anybody know if "Copy Trans" or "Copy Trans Manager" is compatible with the iPod Touch, and will not require the use of iTunes?

No, no and no.

" iPod Touch & iPhone — will not work with anything other than iTunes due to Apple placing an encrypted hash key on the devices which only iTunes 7.4 and above can read to update music content. More details here , here, and here." from prior link. If you don't want iTunes, you must avoid this device.

That sucks

It really sucks that apple's trying to lock down all of their devices to iTunes. Same with Zune

love it or hate it...

That's what Apple (and Microsoft with the Zune) does. And yes it sucks. Perhaps you should look into getting a different player. Maybe an Archos 605 or their Gen 5? Maybe one of the Cowan players? I believe these are all drag and drop.

curious

I'm curious why you want to replace iTunes. I'm new to this - I've only had an iPod for a few months. The only problem I have with iTunes so far is that it does not (or, at least, I know how to do make it do so) rename files that are already in my collection and I wish there were more sorting options.
What are your criticisms?

don't get me started !!

If you've used an MP3 player which supports drop and drag so that you can add tracks to your player as simply as moving files around in Windows, you'll wonder what madness overcame Apple when they let iTunes loose on the world.

Because it's fricking me

by LOTRFREAK16 - 11/21/08 11:11 AM In reply to: don't get me started !! by fihart

I've got a bunch of wma's that I tried to add, but it converted them to 160 bitrate, instead of 128 bitrate, which I wanted it too. It took my music library from 7.6 GB to 20 GB. I'm also wanting to not worry about auto-syncing, and I want to make sure I have what I want on the player. Also, Apple won't let me make a FREE account so I can download FREE apps. I don't want to give them my very personal information. I just want the free apps.

sounds like you might want to jailbreak it

by ktreb - 11/21/08 3:41 PM In reply to: Because it's fricking me by LOTRFREAK16

and instead of putting free apps from the iTunes store, get your apps elsewhere.

As far as iTunes alternatives, here's a link to CNET's MP3 Insider about that:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-12519_7-10104294-49.html?tag=smallCarouselArea.0

But appears to be no app support.

you can change it to 128kps

by Must Be Music - 1/13/09 8:59 PM In reply to: Because it's fricking me by LOTRFREAK16

if you are worried about saving space on your ipod, from the itunes menu go to edit and select preference, click on import settings. now click on the triangle next to setting: and set it to 128kps and click ok once this is done select a song that you would like to change and right click a box appears with several suggestions select create an acc version it will automatically start to change the song to 128kps once the convertion is complete play it to see if it ok. if its good erase the orginal verison because you now have 2 of the same song 1 @ 160kps and 1 @ 128kps (if you want to save time because you state that your libary is probaly over 20 gb now create a playlist with all of the songs you need to reduce the kps on, then go to the playlist and click on a song so it goes blue, but don't play it, now hold control+A and it highlights all songs in list now right click over any song in list while highlighted and create acc version and enter it will convert all the songs it may take awhile and to earse the duplicates go to file and select show duplicates and order them by name also show file size on song info to make it easier to identify the difference of the two songs) I Hope I was of some help good luck!
