Does anyone have any suggestions about refurbished ipods/have had any experience with refurbished products?
I'm a broke college kid, my ipod was stolen last year and I figured now would be a good time to get a new one. I'm interested in the 80 GB ipod classic. It's on sale for 180 rather than 250 at the Apple Refurb Store.
Thoughts?
Thanks
I just had a situation where I ran out of space on my iPod Touch and had to sell it. I just ordered a refurb 80gb Classic last week, and it should be here on Wednesday. I'll give you more information when I get it, but I'll tell you what I can right now. I read their refurb policy and what I got out of it, it's in perfect working order. Not to say it won't be without scratches and blemishes and whatnot, but it should work great.
You can read the policy yourself here: http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/apple_certified.html
It's not that long, I hope that helps a little for now!
I would totally do it! I did and I got what seems to me a BRAND NEW iPod (that I'm actually listening to right now.) The only thing different is the box, other then that, everything is the same and it appears brand spankin' new.
I can't specifically help you with Ipods, but as far as MP3 players go, I have a factory refurbished Creative Nomad Zen Xtra I bought directly from Creative in 2006, and it's always worked fine. (The only problem I have with it is that I recently got a new computer which runs Vista, and I can't seem to be able to understand the advice people on the internet have given me as far as being able to get my player to work on a Vista machine. When it comes to this problem, even baby steps are too complex for me. But I'm digressing away from your question.)
I would not hesitate to buy a factory refurbished product, especially if I'm buying it from the manufacturer. So I say go for it.
You are having distressful problems because you are not using a Mac with an iPod.
I'm pretty good at computers, and for the life of me, trying to figure out Pc's, is like tryiing to cross the street blindfolded. It doesn't work!
Remember students get a big discount with Apple products by showing your student ID in the store. Online, you just need to specify the name of your school.
Do you get a new Battery with refurbished iPods? If not, your starting life with the rest of the former owner battery life. Silly, Apple for not having a replaceable battery.
Yes, refurbished iPods have new batteries. And most current mp3 players do not have user replaceable batteries, not just Apple.
Thanks, that is nice to know. But I still think it is silly for any MP3 player or phone to have non-replaceable batteries. I almost needs to keep a backup unit handy if I am out on the trail or in a middle of a workout.
Yes, my refurbished 4thGen from the Apple website was perfect! - New iPod users, esp. (are there any of those any more?!) should use some of the savings to get AppleCare protection - which is also 24-hr tech support. I did get sad-face twice in two years - called AppleCare, they send you a postpaid box to mail it back, and you get another iPod.
BTW, you have to scroll down to the bottom of Apple Store's website to find "refurbished" on the left hand navigation pane!
I buy lots of electronics refurbished, and use (less than half, usually) the savings for the warranty, very successfully.
have bought several and saved a ton of money!
No issues at all
sold by Apple are covered by exactly the same warranty as a brand new one.
They are also eligible for the AppleCare extended warranty.
This applies to all refurbished products sold by Apple.
