Setting up a home network using server 2008, win 7, router

by LithiumKid1976 - 11/12/09 9:12 AM

hi
im not well up on networks, but i was hoping some one could cast a quick eye on this.

im looking for some help with the ip settings on both machines, as im not fully sure whats the best way to do this.
what i want is for both to be able to see each other on the network, and to share the broadband internet connection.

for the server 2008 i have set a static ip as follows
Server
IP 192.168.1.4
SNM 255.255.255.0
Dg 192.168.1.1
Dns 194.125.2.241
Dns 194.125.2.240

(these are the dns settings from my broadband provider, got from logging on to the router)

Windows 7 Machine
Static Ip address also.
IP 192.168.1.5
SNM 255.255.255.0
Dg 192.168.1.1
Dns 194.125.2.241
Dns 194.125.2.240

on server 2008 I also set the dns forward to point to the broadbands dns.

both machines ping ok and both have internet connectivity, but i just want a 2nd option on the way i have it set up, as im not sure if its fully correct. ie have i added the dns info too many times, or should it just reside on the DC.

Thanks
