How to make an Ethernet Cat5 Cable with an RJ45 Connector
by Jenna292 - 11/4/09 5:06 PMAnyone know of any good sites with instructions on how to assemble an Ethernet Cat5 Cable with an RJ45 Connector? I will need to be able to do this for my networking class and am extremely entry level when it comes to the networking field. Class has been online with no hands-on so I'm having a hard time comprehending it well. The cable and connectors will be provided but no tools. I've done some research and it looks as if a crimping tool can come with a cutter and stripper as well. Do you recommend anything else? Thanks for any help!

It's a promo for their cabling supplies and tools. I'm not steering anyone here as I don't use all the tolls they show here. It's fairly simplistic and isn't the only way this can be done. Not all connectors have the "load bar" insert so you don't angle cut first. This is really a skill that comes with practice but it's not that difficult once you develop your own knack. The hardest part is getting the wires lined up and held in place and knowing where to make the cut so the cable sheath goes just the right distance into the connector. You've got to make a nice squared off final cut and push the wire firmly into the connector and make the crimp. If you can see 8 nice shiny ends of the copy wire up against the front clear plastic of the connector, you got it right.
