Fewer than 700 days until Internet addresses run out.
I thought this was an important piece of information, but wasn't sure where to post it. So I decided on the Networking forum. Let me know if you can think of a more suitable forum.
IP addresses, (CNET.com is hosted at 216.239.122.178, for example), are fast running out, and at the present level of allocation, there are only around 700 days worth of IP addresses left.
The current system of IP numbering is IPv4, a 32 bit system which has 4 billion combinations. Internet industry planners are moving to IPv6 which is a 128 bit system, allowing enough combinations to number all the molecules in the galaxy! ![]()
