The virtual memory setting can easily be changed. Simply right click my computer and select properties.
Go to advanced, performance, settings, advanced, change. Select the custom bullet and make the amount 50MB to 4,000MB.
i've made a few changes to memory setting and one time let the system itself to set the memory, but the problem still occur..
This could be a hardware problem, but more likely a software one. I have a Dell D610 with the same configuration. First check to see if there is any crapware running on it. You know, the software that comes free with the PC that is never used. Remove software that you don't use. If you have 512MB of memory then I would create a page file of 1024MB. More than recommended by Windows but worth it. Make sure that you put the minimum AND maximum size to be the same number, then Windows doesn't have to keep building it.
A few questions for clarification. What OS are you running? What is your page file size? What version of Office are you running? Do you have all of the Windows/Office updates? Do you have current virus and spyware protection running? How much disk space is left on the drive?
512MB of memory these days is minimal for any standard office applications.
The best way of increasing virtual memory and speeding up and slow pc is adding more memory. It is cheap now and easy to install.
