file transfer wizard - anything I should know first?

by ej120 - 10/25/09 5:22 PM

I have an ailing Sharp M M4000 and a brand new Asus eee 1005HA netbook. They both run XP, although the eee runs the home edition and the Sharp uses Pro.
The first thing I did when I turned on the eee was uninstall the trial Microsoft Office and install my own from my own CDs. I'm not sure if I should uninstall anything else.

I haven't transferred any of the programs or files yet.

Do you recommend using the file transfer wizard, and if so, is there anything I should know first?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
EJ

Last week I used

The Microsoft transfer wizard on Vista. It did exactly what others have written up in numerous articles. That is, my files and settings came over. If you ask if programs moved, then let me note that articles cover this but the answer is no. None move.

It did forget to grab some favorites from my other than microsoft web browser but it did make it easy.

Thanks, Bob.
You referred to other postings on this topic. How can I find them? I started by searching "file transfer wizard" and got nothing.
You did answer part of what I wanted to know - the programs don't move over. I was hoping they would!

Sorry but there are thousands of web pages about this wizard. Ask around but here I'll keep it short. It's a fine effort from MSFT but some hoped their programs would move over. At least we know that won't happen.
