Upgrading USB?

by c2c--2008 - 10/22/08 11:50 AM

Is it possible to upgrade a desktop from USB 1.0 to 2.0?

USB 3.0 is coming out in the not too distant future, so same question for 2.0 to 3.0.
Thanks

Install a new PCI card that has the new ports.

Just to be sure, there is no need for a change in the bios or other components?
USB3 will be much faster than USB2, but that will all be handled by the PCI cards?

Just what I've experienced.

Never had to change the BIOS settings.

USB 3.0 is vaporware. Since any answer could be right, I'll just say yes.

Don't hold your breath on speed . . .

by Coryphaeus - 10/28/08 6:10 AM In reply to: USB conversion by c2c--2008

All speeds listed, be it wireless, LAN, HD transfer, USB, are theoretical limits done in perfect laboratory conditions. You'll never get an advertised speed. Period.

Granted, each upgrade (USB-1 to USB-2 for example) generally means an increase in speed over a previous version, don't expect to get what is advertised. It just won't happen.

Simply install the USB 2.0 card.
