I have a 19" crt and I'm thinking about upgrading to a 30" lcd. I have a 9800gt graphics card and a 3ghz processor. Could I play games like crysis or gta iv with reasonable quality on a 30" lcd or is the native resolution on these monitors just too high? What model would you recommend?
You will definitely love the greater view you will get from a 30" LCD monitor!! You seem to have a recent graphics card, so you should be okay for the 30" LCD resolution"
I have sort of an outdated graphics card, and when I got my 24" I ran into some problems with the resolution. Did I update?,No. I ran my resolution just a bit lower, but the maximum allowed for my graphics card, and I can play movies and games with no problem. Smooth playback. It took some configuring around and it was not something I expected.
So to be on the safe side, check what your graphics card resolution will allow and compare it to the 30" LCD monitor's resolution.
I love the way the LCD screens look, Thinner, slick, and more range of view.
What do you think would be better overall: a 120hz 22" or a 60hz 30"?
I didn't buy my HDTVs to use as PC monitors, but I can tell you that I have a 42" Sharp 1080p 1500:1 contrast ratio at 60hz and just purchased a 32" Vizio 1080p 50,000:1 contrast ratio at 120hz for the bedroom and IMHO the 32" has a better quality picture.
By far.
The blue-ray movies look incredible on the new 32". Not that they don't look good on the 42" because they do... I am just saying I can definitely see the picture quality difference in my 2 year old HDTV vs the new one.
I'm all about HD image quality personally... doesn't matter to me if it's 60" or 26".
If the 30" monitor had a native resolution of 2560x1600, do I have to run it at that resolution or would a resolution of exactly half that(1280x800) run with no visible problems?
120 hz 22" vs 60hz30". I cannot answer that question as I do not specifically know the difference. I do recommend you to go to sites like bestbuy.com, cnet.com, or just goggle the Brand and model # to get some reviews. Based on those reviews that people have experience first hand on those products, you can conclude on what the best deal is.
Also I see you are considering getting a 22"...which makes me wonder, Do you really need a 30". If your going to be sitting in front of a 30" playing games, I think that might be a bit too much. But then again, I'm no PC gamer.
So the 30" has a native resolution of 2560x1600 and you want to run it at half that (1280x800). The difference will be visible as icons will appear LARGER than what you might be used to and perhaps depending on your graphics card, they might even look a bit jagged or pixalated. Some games, do an automatic configuration for best settings, so I don't know how the game's graphics will be affected.
Just do a lil bit of research on reviews
also remember that Black Friday is just around the corner, and you might find some even better deals than if you were to purchase right now.
