by i-2alive - 11/3/09 11:57 AM

i mainly use firefox and google chrome. i have come to the point where i am going to reboot my computer and start fresh with factory settings. But i have many bookmarks and saved passwords that i do not want to lose. how do i back up this information so that when i reinstall my browsers, i can just load up my bookmarks?

Save the file

Look in the mozilla file for the bookmark backups.
Copy these to a usb key.
Google chrome should also have a bookmark file.
Do the same.
You can redownload firefox later.
If the file format is the same you can edit the IE bookmarks by copying and pasting the information near the end of the new bookmark file.

With Firefox

you can Export bookmarks from the Bookmarks menu option. Go to Bookmarks > Organise bookmarks, then under the "Import and Backup" menu, choose "Export HTML". This will save an HTML web page with all of your bookmarks to a location of your choice.

Copy that to some removable media, then when you install Firefox afresh, just reverse the process.

I'm sure Google's Chrome will have a similar function.
