They (Craigslist) changed their servers recently, and for over a month since their pages will not load for me. I tried two browsers to no avail, then I called them directly. They told me to reset the router, but it did not work. So I disconnected my Linksys router, and connected to the internet directly. Now all pages work perfectly.
So I am assuming it is an issue with the Linksys router and will post more as a find out what to change.
I called Linksys at 1(800)326-7114. They took me through some steps and it solved the problem.
Open your router page in your browser. Should be an address with a series of numbers similar to:
http://189.156.1.1/
(I changed the above for my own security reasons.)
Once you enter your password and pull up the Linksys router page, click on the "Advanced" tab (top right on mine.)
Then scroll down to the bottom of the "Filters" page.
You should see this setting:
MTU: . Enable . Disable Size: 1492
Decrease the size to 1450 or so to allow more information through the router. Then apply and try your sites that won't load. If they still won't load try lowering the size just low enough until they do, thus still keeping your firewall intact. You can go all the way down to 600 but that would pretty much let anything through and defeat the purpose of the firewall.
Hope this works as well as it did for me.
Thanks.
You may need to upgrade the firmware on your router depending on the version you are running. Linksys has a download page for all models, but I found it easier to call their tech support to go through the upgrade since it is quite involved. They were very helpful too.
you didnt have to change that IP address, especially if it started out with 192.##.##.###- all networks use that, so it wouldnt be helpful for a hacker to know that info.
I did the whole 9 yards with the Router with Linksys and I still am not able to connect.
For the record, I can connect to this URL through this router with my laptop; I cannot connect through the desktop. The desktop has been working fine up until a few weeks ago.
...thumbs way up for the solution!!! Craig and I happily thank you for your support. Now back to his list I go....
PLease let me know about that fix.
Thanks
I have the EXACT same problem as "polaris6". i believe my router to be OK as I can access craigslist with my laptop or any other computer on the network. My desktop (Vista Premium) is the only computer that can't. All other web pages pull up, I've got through all the security settings I can think of and disabled my antivirus/ firewall. Same problem! What ended up being the fix for you polaris6?
I'm having the same problem as you did accessing craigslist. I can get into every other site except that one. All you did was disconnect your modem and router, and reconnected, and that fixed it? Thanks DS
Craigslist in the only site that will not work using either IE or Mozilla. sometime it works if I power off router. I can not get any help from Dlink and Cox refuses since I have a router. Help
I have a FF addon called The Annonymization toolbar and I'm able to access craigslist through it.
box by going to tools tab > options > privacy tab > cookies tab > exception button > type craigslist.com and allow it to set cookies > click close button > click ok
If this works for you let me know.
Were you able to ever fix this problem? I am have been having the same problem just recently and was told it was because of my DSL provider....SBC/yahoo....
I can't access www.craigslist.org either...this started about 1-2 months ago or so. I couldn't figure it out.
Tonight I spent some time...and tried all of the suggestions to this problem...none worked.
I have a win2k system.
I cleared all my browers(i have a couple).
I then opened my ms internet explorer when type in www.craigslist.org and my browser got redirected to http:/www.navisearch.net (I think I've got adware/spamware on my machine.
sure enough...Then I used netstat and started monitoring connections...Well I started seeing http connections and wrote a couple down and one of these was the navisearch site.
So...then I http'd into my router...netgear and setup a block for the navisearch website.
Lo and Behold...now I can get to craigslist again....
Sigh! I'm happy about that...but I've got more connections occuring that I believe are spyware etc...I can now continue to cleanup...maybe I should consider a clean os install and get my pc protected again...
Note:
ping and tracert will fail to craigslist they've got it setup to not respond to ping/tracert.
Lastly: Best of luck to any of you whom have encountered this issue....as you can see from all of the responses, there seem to be a number of causes and solutions.
This is a 2nd response; Well sorry all...I guess I spoke to soon...I now hav the navisearch.net popping up again..and also what seems to get repeatedly activated is this application called cashback...which is spamware/spyware...I used to simply turn this off and was able to get to craigslist...I think my problem still may lay with spamware/adware crappola.
Sigh again.
