I have an account with them and they have been down many times and my Email gets backed once in a while to the point where I don't receive messages for hours. If you are looking for a host in their price range with similar specifications I'd recommend HostMonster or Lunarpages. http://www.hostingplanrebates.com has rebates and coupons for them too. I have a Lunarpages and IX account and let me tell you the difference is substantial. IX has given me many headaches and Lunarpages not one. When my IX plan is done I'm going to go with HostMonster because I've heard so many great things about their up time and customer support. Good luck and keep looking beyond IX for sure.

If you plan on running a commerce account, or recieveing/sending email with em, forget it.

To many hassles.

Blacklisted all over the place, so its a nightmare sending and recieveing email.

And the ecommerce is a nightmare to deal with thru them.
I asked explicitly if I can use the shared SSL with OScommerce, and sales said sure thing, go to set up, cannot get a valid connection and of course, 1 tech says it should work, the other says, no way.

My opinion, that have not be remotely worth the money I paid for business hosting.

IX Web Hosting UNETHICAL PRACTICES

by 123preston - 11/24/07 11:10 AM In reply to: ix web hosting by avjam

I signed a client with IX in November 2005. A Windows Starter Plan at a cost of roughly $74 quarterly. I discovered only last week that, not only did IX discontinue that plan DAYS AFTER I PURCHASED IT, but that the new plan was HALF THE PRICE!!

I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED and they kept renewing the non-existent plan at the same price!!!

The IX manager I spoke with named ADAM (he would not give his last name, I wonder why) actually compared IX's billing practices to those of CELL PHONE COMPANIES. In other words, IX Web Hosting has absolutely no problem with getting rid of a product days after you purchase it, replacing it with a product that is HALF THE PRICE while continuing to charge THEIR CUSTOMERS twice the price for something they no longer offer.

What idiot would use a cell phone company as an example of how to do business? That would be ADAM at IX Web Hosting.

Arg!

Wow, sorry you had such a bad experience!

I just started using http://catholichosting.org and I love it! The prices are okay, but they have 24/7 tech support by real Americans, lol. I can actually understand what they are saying. Plus, they give 10% of their profits to charity.

I'm using their deluxe package, which is pretty cheap if you pay for the year at once, although you can pay month-to-month. The great thing about the deluxe package is that I can have multiple domain names point to it, or even subfolders on it, so it's like having a bunch of hosting accounts for the same price!

I do know that they offer both Linux and Windows accounts. I've used both, and they're both good, but it depends on what apps you wantr to use.

IX Web Hosting - Worst Host Ever?

by Brent Crouch - 11/6/08 7:33 PM In reply to: Arg! by onsaninc

When I signed up for a hosting account in April of 2007 with IX Web Hosting, it wasn't my first time around the block. I've had hosting accounts with several other companies and even run my own dedicated server over at Servint.net. (great company by the way)

One thing I experienced that was new for me at IX WebHosting was having two of my sites hacked in the 4 months. The first time was in June of this year and the response I got from their technical support was non-existent. What's even worse is the action they took.

You can read the details and view the emails I got from their support department at this link.

http://www.brentcrouch.com/2008/11/05/ix-web-hosting-worst-host-ever-part-1/

Then 4 months later, I had one of my wordpress sites hacked. I got a basic generic email from IX Hosting telling me that one of my domains had been loaded with phising pages and I should use live help to get more information.

When I wrote live help they couldn't tell me which domain had been hacked. Eight hours later, I was able to determine it was my brentcrouch.com domain by searching for files that had been recently updated.

I was able to clean up the problem and reload wordpress. I promptly replied to my support ticket letting IX Web Hosting know the problem was solved.

What I received back was a really nice reply thanking me for acting so quickly and stating if it happened again my account would be terminated and I would be denied access to my back up files!

You can read the actual reply at this link.

http://www.brentcrouch.com/2008/11/05/ix-web-hosting-terrible-customer-service-part-2/

Why would any host deny you access to your own files for a situation that is out of your control? Companies like eBay, Amazon, and Buy.com with millions of dollars and teams of network security pros have all been hacked at one time or another. If you think your site is above being hacked, then just send me your domain and I'll post the challenge on a few hacking sites. I bet most of you wouldn't make it 4 hours.

Is IX Web Hosting's reaction totally out of line or is this the norm for hosting companies?
