If you clear the history ...

by Kees Bakker Moderator - 4/30/08 3:51 AM In reply to: No... by tboylikecj

IS it really cleared?

Exit IE and see if Documents and Settings>youruserid>Local Settings>History is really empty. If not, delete the contents manually.

Then start IE again. The address bar history should be empty now. There's no other place the info is stored.

Try a dedicated cleaner

by MarkFlax Moderator - 4/30/08 5:06 AM In reply to: No... by tboylikecj

like CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/

This free application will remove all temporary internet files and temporary files, as well as stores like history and "recent" lists.

If you choose to install it, just watch the install process and select not to install the Yahoo toolbar if that option is displayed.

I hope that helps.

Mark

tboylikecj, Which version of IE are you using (IE6 orIE7)?

How can I delete address bar history in Internet Explorer?
Internet Explorer users can view the address bar history by clicking the down arrow on the far right side of the text box. To help keep the pages you have recently visited or searched for you can clear the address bar history.
To delete address bar in Internet Explorer 7.0:
• Select "Tools"
• Select "Internet Options".
• Open the "General" tab.
• In "Browsing history" area click the "Delete" button.
• To delete list of web sites you have visited (delete Address bar history), click "Delete history" and then click Yes.
• Click Close and then click OK.

To delete address bar history in Internet Explorer 5.x/6.x:
• Go to Tools and select Internet Options.
• Open "General tab", click "Clear history".
• Click "OK".

Autocomplete vs Inline Autocomplete

by sheilakmcd - 5/1/08 3:08 AM In reply to: IE6 Version: 6.0.2990.2180 .......... by tboylikecj

What you are describing is inline autocomplete. Go to internet options, advanced tab, scroll down and uncheck inline autocomplete.

That's true indeed.

So that gives two other places to look for the offending url popping up after clearing the history:
1. The favorites. That's one of the sources for this list.
2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs. Here IE stores the last 20 url's you typed for easy reference by inline autocomplete.

Problem was solved by .................

by tboylikecj - 5/2/08 2:53 AM In reply to: Re: inline autocomplete by Kees Bakker Moderator

well auto complete vs inline complete didnt work either.
I have "Getright 6.3b" installed and it has a option to
"Clear All History List".
After trying every solution provided in this thread i thought their is a option in getright to clear history and after trying it my problem was solved.
Anway guys Thanks alot.
