XP SP3 RC2 and Zone Alarm.

by R. Proffitt Moderator - 2/26/08 8:27 AM In reply to: XP SP3 issues here. by R. Proffitt Moderator

I have a few reports of Zone Alarm failures after installing SP3. Sadly I have yet to see the machines first hand so they were forced to uninstall and use the Microsoft Firewall or PC Tools firewall for now.

Here's a possible example.

SP3 (Candidate) on an XP machine and ZoneAlarm kept shutting down Internet Explorer. The poster ha now moved on to a different firewall.

I have no problems here

by PudgyOne - 2/26/08 10:03 AM In reply to: XP SP3 RC2 and Zone Alarm. by R. Proffitt Moderator

Using XP home and SP3

kb936929-sp3-x86-enu

I have Zone Alarm and have no issues. No Blocked intrusions. I tried Shields Up and passed with flying colors.

Anything you'd like me to try?

There are some problems

by LionsMike - 3/15/08 9:01 PM In reply to: sp3 by f3474drum

Microsoft does admit that is not quite ready for public release. The version which was hoped to be the release version went out last month and was found to still have some problems which were serious enough to hold it back.

Must be machine dependent...

by SanCarlosScott - 3/21/08 10:04 AM In reply to: XP SP3 RC2 and Zone Alarm. by R. Proffitt Moderator

Installed ZoneAlarm free after SP3. No problems whatever.

Post 10 of 123

That's inline with my experiences.

Uninstall what you can, install the SP of choice, reinstall stuff after.

Microsoft is much like that certain child in the sand box...

Minor point

by eddie11013 - 2/26/08 2:28 PM In reply to: Microsoft pulled the XP SP3 Release Canidate by PudgyOne

Hi Rick,
The link that you listed, is to trick your computer so that you can install sp3, via windows updates, on an sp2 machine. If you have a previous version of sp3, that has to be uninstalled first. There is a ’full’ installer, for current version build 3311, that is 315MB’s. One might want to have this ’full installer’ if one wanted to have a backup in case they needed to reformat at a later date. But of course, these are ’still’ not the final versions. As far as I know, anyway.
That’s it. The end.
Have a good one,
Eddie

should i be worried?

by Silr J - 2/27/08 4:56 AM In reply to: XP SP3 issues here. by R. Proffitt Moderator

that the agreement for SP3 has this inside of it?

"TIME-SENSITIVE SOFTWARE. The Software will
stop running three hundred sixty (360) days after
you install it. You will not receive any other notice.
You may not be able to access data used with the
Software when it stops running."

Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3

by caladan1810 - 2/29/08 8:13 PM In reply to: The recurring advice is to never use beta software on by R. Proffitt Moderator

Hi People,

just thought I'd throw my 2c worth in. I'm Currently using the following:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
v.3264 Build 2600 [slipstreamed full un-attend install]
On a Compaq Presario 1500 Notebook [Compaq 68P4C Ver. F.0D, 9/05/2003]

I've had no issues at all. My system has been the best it's ever been since I bought it!

Cal.
