I recently purchased a Gateway MT6451 notebook. The first day, it crashed, and said "No Operating System found". It ran very slow, and sluggish. I was not pleased, so I formated the drive and installed Windows XP Pro.
I've scoured the internet for drivers, as Gateway only provides Vista drivers for my laptop. I've got just about everything working except for one item in Device Manager: "SM Bus Controller"
I've read this has to do with the chipset on the M/B. So I went to the AMD site, but don't know which download I need.

Also, I can't get the Bluetooth to work. Although, I'd rarely use this feature.

You want to look for something about the ATI RS485M chipset... It may just be called something like the 485M chipset. Though you may have to go to the ATI section of the AMD website to find it: http://ati.amd.com
Before I removed Vista, I did a Snapshot of Device Manager. Under "Display adapters" it showed "ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M Series" installed.
When I tried installing that driver from the ATI page, the system would crash. Then I noticed that the Gateway spec sheet said I had the ATI Radeon® Xpress 1150M. Upon downloading the correct driver, the problem is solved.
Thanks
I'm in the same predicament...
I purchased the MT6451 laptop w/ Vista which blows... Loaded XP Pro on it and cannot find drivers.. could you please zip them up for me and email me a copy? Or provide links to the ones you found?
Thanks in advance!

and I'll hook ya up.
Before I installed XP, I did a snap-shot of Device Manager in Vista, and it reported using the ATI Catalyst drivers for the Xpress 200m inside. (Pictured here: http://i15.tinypic.com/4uui3i8.jpg ) When I tried using the ATI "Xpress 200m"driver for XP it fails. Then I tried the "Radeon Xpress 1150", and it worked perfectly. I choose not to install the additional "game" and other stuff.(I can't remember) Just the Catalyst.
**Caution: The Catalyst™ Control Center requires that the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 be installed. Without .NET version 2.0 installed, the Catalyst™ Control Center will not launch properly and the user will see an error message. (.NET Framework: http://tinyurl.com/758p8 )

These are not required, but I would recommend:
The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core processor systems, by periodically adjusting the core time-stamp-counters, so that they are synchronized.

I found them ok... I bought the laptop for my sons 17th birthday but HAD to get Vista off it. I had a copy of XP Pro that I threw on there which runs soooo much better.. thanks for the assitance anyway!
Just got my new MT6451, Immediately formatted Vista.
Ok i installed all those drivers on a fresh xp pro+sp1&2 and everything works great. Except..
Under Device Manager i have a yellow ! next to Other Devices/ Mass Storage Controller.
Any idea where to find the XP driver for this
Ok the reason seems to be that i don't have the Realtek Media Card, but instead have the Texas Instruments PCIxx12 controller. I found the drivers for this here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-64419
Also before i installed it, i was only showing 800Mhz speed on control panel/system, But now after i installed this its showing 1600Mhz and no Yellow ! on the Device tab.. Wicked!!
You can download this driver here

I looked for this driver for 4 days... Thanks to all involved..LDG
This post is probably a users only recourse to get the MT6451 running on XP. I just went through this with Gateway's technical support which was more of a detriment than help. They will not tell you what drivers do work because they do not support XP. (Hopefully Acer can whip them into shape or in my case; no more Gateway products for me.) This post supplies the needed drivers which work fine. However, I was unable to download the drivers from the Gateway site using a Windows 2000 Pro machine. I'm not sure if Gateway is intentionally doing something funny here.Gateway's technical support was very elusive about this and would not e-mail me the drivers at my request. I was able to download the drivers on the MT6451 running Linux. By the way, Unbunto recognized more of the native MT6451's hardware than XP did; only requiring extra work for the wireless. It runs even better than XP! Just a matter of time to be totally weened from Microsoft.
They did the same thing to me. Yes, you can down grade to XP, but no we won't tell you which drivers you need or where to get them, nor what you need to do, oh, and once you do it, if anything goes wrong, don't call us, as we won't help you." Like they we were a whole lot of help with, anyways. I will never be another Gateway customer again, unless I get something for free
Anyhow, I am still in need of almost all of the drivers for XP. I also have the MT6451, but after 2 brain surgeries thanks to brain cancer, the things I used to find simple are no longer so simple. If anyone has all of these, I can pay you for you time if you can zip and email or send me a CD. I have tried 3 time to do it now, and after 3 third failure, vowed no more. I can PayPal $20 or so, I hav XP, and SP2. I do have most of the drivers, but if someone had all of them, as I don't remember which ones I am still in need of ( which is always the problem ) Anyhow, I took two screen shots of my device manager just to make sure I got everything in. Here is one http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2302/2110650791_ccd59b919c_o.jpg
Here is the second

Like I said if anyone could help me, you would have no idea how much it would mean to me, even if it does cost me.
