Read the following article today http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=754&tag=nl.e539 and there was a mention in this article about another fix that may help some of you. According to Ed Bott's article re-registering an activex Dll with the command line command regsvr32 actxprxy.dll has solved some issues. I ran it on my system and didn't notice a significant improvement but perhaps this fix didn't really apply to me in the first place. On my system, after removing the restricted zone entries IE8 works every bit as fast as IE7 or perhaps just a shade faster. Since this extra fix may help some of you I thought I would post it anyway as a simple re-registration of an existing DLL isn't a big deal.
Thanks. Another arrow in my quiver.
I downloaded this file and when I right click the file there is no option "install". If I click on open I get a notepad document. How do I get this file to install and do it's job of removing my restricted sites?

I have no idea. When I right-click, there is an Install option. Sounds like there's some registration issue. Have you tried googling the issue?

This thread is gettting a bit long. I assume that you're referring to the deldomain.inf file. The link to the site containing the file is in a previous link. You'll have do save the file first to your onn system. The instructions are pretty simply once you find the original link.
He can find it. He can't install it.

I tried this and I had other problems associated to my stability and browsing. That's it ...I am not using IE any longer except for compatibility check.
Hi Guys and Gals,
Let me say I thought I was crazy. I have a moderate 3 year old PC running XP Home SP2, and it is not overloaded with programs and crap. I Run Norton 360, scan with Malwarebytes, never DL anything that could harm it (like Limewire) so it has always run smooth and quick( well, there was this one time that I had to shut off 360's transaction security due to a Symantec update slowing page loading, but they fixed that). It's got a stuffed HD (70 gig's on a 80 gig HD), but it always runs smooth. XBOX.com never fails to load in 6 seconds, and that's with 2 windows and 9 tabs open to different sites.
So what I am trying to say is, it works pretty well for an older PC...
Until, I had the misfortune of not following my golden rule of leaving well enough alone, and DL'd IE8 'bout 3 weeks ago.
this PC slowed, locked, and generally could not chew gum and walk at the same time. Paypal MO shipping would not work, as well as several other site based apps I use for EBAY. Skype was a disaster, even with all the new updates and versions.
yesterday, my screen went white, as active desktop failed, and I GOOGLED something about the browser and desktop failing together to "paint" the picture, so I figured, let me go back to IE7 so I can try......
Let me tell you something.....Not only do I have my desktop back, the pc is back to it's old self.....no lock-ups, no stammers, runs fast and great...
IE 8, while great with features, isn't worth the hassle. Stay at 7, run google Toolbar 6(which mimics the accelerators of IE8), and run FireFox when needed.
The problem i was having was IE8 and tabs with new pages was very slow to load. Problem turned out to be the list of restricted sites Spybot-Search&Destroy inserted into the browsers restricted zone url list. I removed the list and just have them in my host file alone to continue to get the protection they provide and my IE8 is fine now.
Hopes this helps.
what happened when you tried any of the solutions offered in this discussion.
Did none of them work for you? If not, give details. And also, don't forget the "important" information;
<b style="font-weight:normal; color:red">Note: If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. In my opinion, from the posts that I read in this thread, those that had a large number of entries in their restricted zone list and didn't have other issues benefited by running the deldomains.inf.
I use to recommend running the imunization function in spybot to all my outside consulting clients and in every case where I did and later upgraded these clients to IE 8.0 deldomain.inf was the ticket to resolving the performance issues. From what I read regarding those that switched back to Firefox I suspect that many of them were pre-disposed to using Firefox anyway which is totally cool. Personally I have used both and I'm neutral on this issue. What concerns me a bit is that many articles said IE 8.0 was supposed to be better and faster. In my opinion, as long as IE 8.0 is "AS FAST" as previous versions while at the same time enhancing security and also adding features then I consider it a success.
I messed around w/ the Add-ons portion of IE8. What I discovered were that the ADD-ON's in IE8 run just like all the overtaxed processes that Windows never seems to free up (unlike Unix!). If you go to Tools>Manage Add-ons, then ensure your on the "Toolbars and extensions" tab. You will see a whole bunch of toolbars that may be loaded on your browser. I decided to disable the majority of mine that I knew would not need to be running in IE (Adobe, Windows Live Sign in helper, Blog, etc.) If you dont need these to run all the time while in IE, then disable them! Once disabled, restart IE8. I bet you will see a HUGE difference in speed and performance of the Microsoft IE8 browser. Please reply and let me know your success. OH, and by the way, if you need to have a toolbar extension run again, just go back in there and enable it.
I already had all of my toolbars and extensions disabled in "manage add ons". IE 8 has improved in speed since I started this thread becaue of some Windows updates that came in routinely.
Thanks for the advice everyone has shared with me and others that have visited this thread. Your willingness to help is to be commended.
It has truly been an enlightening and enjoyable experience for me!!!

But glad you were able to make some improvements.
