firefox running slow

by senthil0787 - 6/19/07 10:25 PM In reply to: firefox running slow by clerik

Hi,

Firefox pages runs faster by allowing multiple connections so it can download more than one file at a time. It’s only useful for broadband users, so if you’re still on dial-up you can just skip this one for now.

Here’s something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!

Thanks,

Just wanted to say thank you for your firefox tip, even though I wasn't the original post-er! I was linked to your recommendation from a generalized google search and it has proved to be SO helpful. Firefox was dragging my whole work day down and now it's sped right up. Thanks!!

Firefox Running Slow (NOT!)

by mastaphin - 7/24/08 3:54 PM In reply to: firefox running slow by senthil0787

Dear Senthil0787,

There are not sufficient words in the English language to thank you for this tidbit of information. Obviously Firefox couldn't allow those settings in the standard version or it would drown home networks.

My Firefox is my blessed angel now, with your advice.
Firefox is like a high strung video game now.. Hit a link and BAM. Onscreen.

Thanks Billions.

only gmail now giving problems

by mcstylis - 8/17/08 11:00 AM In reply to: firefox running slow by senthil0787

When I try to access Gmail it just keeps redirecting to a page that redirects to it (infinite redirecting). Also when I try to visit Yahoo or Hotmail.. it never gets there.

Anyone else having trouble?

I have no problems with anywhere else.. I can visit other websites such as my work or shoppers drug mart or canada.com... Netscape runs so quickly and does not have this problem..

Also thanks for the configuring.. Firefox now runs quicker except for this problem.
