stop sign free scan dangerous

by sgrof - 12/30/04 9:00 PM

I think I got TOASTED by stop sign. I had nothing wrong with my new computer until I curiously scanned at stop sign. Now I have unending spyware, browser hijacking, porn, invisible programs running changing my operating system, poor performance, etc. God knows what else. Vroom Search, Xoom Search. Stop sign told me I have what is called a Trojan.Dowas(followed by some numbers). They probably gave it to me. They are impossible to get rid of. Today, I downloaded SPYWARE DOCTOR and BLASTER and they are doing pretty good. I already had Zone Alarm, AVG, Norton, Lavasoft and internet privacy settings which helped some. The experience has been totally GROSS. I don't recommend it. Where can someone make a legal complaint? When you think STOP SIGN, JUST SAY NO to popping up porn on kids' machines. PERSONAL WAIVER- THIS IS MY OPINION ONLY AND I CAN'T PROVE IT.

eAcceleration Stop-Sign

by David Nason - 2/17/05 9:43 PM In reply to: You would have found this...... by Marianna Schmudlach Moderator

Marianna,
since you posted the doxdesk.com link, surely you noticed that it explicitly says "The software was discontinued in 2002 and installations should now be dormant."

Stop-Sign and eAcceleration have been found to be clean by every major anti-virus vendor (Microsoft, Norton, McAfee) and all the anti-spyware software developers we've contacted (Microsoft, PestPatrol, SpywareWarrior, even SpyBot (although the change to defs has yet to be made, they have formally acknowledged the fact)).

eAcceleration has worked hard in the past year+ to resolve past issues and regain its reputation.

Regards,

David Nason
CTO
eAcceleration Corp.

If you can back your claims, then perhaps you'd like to openly share with us HOW to completely GET RID OF EAccelerate (Stop Sign Scan) software from our computers!

I have attempted to delete it from every angle.....from program files, from the registry. Each time I get an error message which says the file 'scanner_plugin.dll' cannot be accessed nor deleted...another cute and funny thing....there IS NO UNINSTALL for this dang program and it does not show up in ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.

It's clear that something is written into the program to keep us from getting rid of it. And NO, this program has not been found clean by every other program out there. SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY finds it and attempts to delete it everytime, but access is denied. Tell your programmers they programmed the scam well....now UNPROGRAM IT and give us a fix!

I will be most interested in hearing your response and your 'fix' to this.

Thank you!
June

Scanner_plugin.dll 0.0.1.4267 is the stopsign threat scanner software......for those who might be interested.....it's listed under Program Files as Acceleration Software/Antivirus.....AND IS TOTALLY IRREMOVABLE!

a question in here before you download something. There are a number of people in here that will offer their expertise or advise, both Moderators and non Moderators. Also, just so you know, there is no such thing as a dumb question in this forum. Welcome to CNET and have a Happy New Year.:D

I read one of your replies, and you seemed very patient.

My mother and I foolishly downloaded Smiley Central and we don't know how to remove it completely, I don't know where else to look except the add/remove in the control panel...help...we both have anti virus software, but we foolishly allowed it access to our computers when we downloaded it. After we started having problems, I googled it and it said it was smart enough to re-install it, so I don't know what to do; can you help or know someone who can? I feel really bad because I don't have a job right now and my mom is only working part-time at a new job that only pays miniumum wage, so we don't have the money for two computers to take in to try to have someone else remove this software...thank you for your time and will be looking forward to be hearing from you.

Keep asking!

Stop Sign is "so bad" that it may be time for a snail mail letter to Eliot Spitzer?

I saw an ad for this last night on TV and decided to check it out. Luckily I did remember to check here first!

My computer is acting weird, but not horrendous. My biggest, most irritating issue is that my work connection keeps coming up asking me to reconnect. I'm on broadband, but I keep getting the dialup connection prompt. (I use VPN and then connect to my desktop remotely.) I tell it to never connect, but 2 min later it's back again! I mainly use Firefox and mostly have no problem connecting, but once in a while when I try to open something with IE I get the prompt, and if I cancel the prompt, IE won't connect to my site!

I run Adaware and Spybot and I have McAfee antivirus. All say they are up to date. I also recently reinstalled AOL (comes with my cable package, connection issue was already a problem prior to reinstalling) and I'm running all of their "protection" programs.
