Hi, I have Norton Protection Center (which includes a anti-virus/spyware ). I was wondering what other programs I need to help keep my computer clean.
I run my norton anti-virus adn spyware at least once a week, and nothing shows, but I am sure that I have some form of malware or spyware.
btw-the Norton is provided by my service provider, so Im not sure how good this is aswell.
Thank you.
download and install SpywareBlaster:
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Operating Systems: Microsoft ® Windows 2000, XP,
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or alternate download link
* Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
* Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
* When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
* When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
* - Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* - Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* Then click Finish.
* MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
* If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
* On the Scanner tab:
* - Make sure the "Perform Quick Acan" option is selected.
* - Then click on the Scan button.
* The next screen will ask you to select the drives to scan. Leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
* The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
* When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
* Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
* Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
* The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* -- Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.
Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users
* Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
* An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
* If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
* Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
* Click the Scanning Control tab.
* Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
Close browsers before scanning.
Scan for tracking cookies.
Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
* Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
* Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
* On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
* On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
* Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
* After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
* Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
* A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
* If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
Ok. Thank you very much.
I am sorry I forgot to mention that I have Windows XP, but it looks like all those programs are ok for it.
The only other question I have, is , will any of these programs interfere with my Norton? I expect they won't, but I know very little about these things.
I thank you again for your help.
I am NOT aware of ANY problems running scans with MalwareBytes AntiMalware and\or Super Antispyware.
You Are Very Welcome ![]()
"will any of these programs interfere with my Norton?"
No. MBAM and SAS will not interfere with Norton.
Id like to thank you two very much. I appreciate the help.
Ive downloaded the MBAM & SAS. Should I also download the Spyware blaster as mentioned , or is this enough ?
Thank you again. ![]()

First thank you again for your help. Those programs did a great job cleaning/removing stuff of of my computer.
This question is in regards to my ul speed. I recently d/l a music file sharing program-and everything was fine. A couple of days ago, my ul speed dropped dramitically. It will flutcuate but still at a very slow speed.
My internet provider did a speed test and said its working like it should. I was wondering if this indicates that I have a deeper problem with my computer or some kind of real bad virus.
I thank you again for you help, and patience with my questions .
to see IF it finds anything:
Please run the Housecall online virus scan located at:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Follow the prompts to scan your hard drive for viruses. Select the "Autoclean" option so that Housecall will remove any viruses from your system.
When the scan is finished, please restart your computer.
Then please run the Panda scan here:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/
Panda ActiveScan on the left .
Choose to "Disinfect automatically," and follow the prompts. Delete any viruses found, and restart your computer.
Finally, please run the WindowSecurity trojan scan here:
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/
Remove any trojans found, and restart your computer.
Hi, I cannot run housecall, everytime I get to the launching it page, the bottom of the screen says done... and theres a little caution sign at the bottom left corner aswell. Any ideas how to pass this?
Thank You .
Error: 'window.UICore.api' is null or not an object
Line: 95
URL:http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/housecall/ui-cached/html/default/banner.xml?locale=en_CA&impl=applet/html/javascript
This is what the caution sign says when I click on it.
Can you run this one?
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/
or this one:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/housecall
No I cannot, I still get the same message. Would any of my programs be making it do this?
Most file-sharing program will use network and computer resources. Not recommened to use this program because it has many unwanted and malicious files in this network.
You can try removing the file-sharing program and see if your networking will be fine again.
I never had trouble with it, until a couple of days ago. I did uninstall the program, but I could not tell if the uploading was any better since I could not know if anyone was uploading off of me.
I assumed that I a virus thru web searches.. but I really have no idea. Is there any other way I could get a housecall scan or will my computer just not allow it.
I thank you for all your help again. ![]()
