What has people experience been upgrading to OS 10.5.7

by mattlp - 6/11/09 1:30 PM

I've been hesitant upgrading to 10.5.7. I've got two Macs at home, both on Leoopard. I always wait a few weeks before upgrading to a new release and it looks like some people are having problem with their wireless connections after upgrading. Here are two links to the Apple support forums that talk about the problem:

and

I have been really nervous about upgrading. I don't want/need "intermittent wireless" problems. What are others' experiences?
Thanks

I see oddball setups there.

"im using wireless but not using a router. "

That and the other posts look to be nothing but oddball setups and many less than WPA security. Over the past year the issue of WEP now being equal to no security and MAC (yes, all capital letters) filtering being ineffective has me wondering when the message about this will sink in.

I agree as well

With Leopard, every upgrade has more or less improved my wireless connectivity speeds and whatnot, not the reverse. 10.5.7 has been stable on my 2007 MacBook Pro, so I would expect your machines to be fine. I tend to update my software on day one, and so far, everything is looking good. To be cautious, backing up through Time Machine beforehand could help in case you decide to downgrade later on. Good luck.

Your feedback was a help. I know it's always a vocal minority that has problems, but it helps to hear that it worked for some. I will probably update one computer and wait a few days before doing the other. And yes, a back up will be essential. I don't always backup before upgrading - I typically just click on the "install now"!
