I am in the market for a new desktop mac that can do some decent video editing and other processor intensive activities. I just don't want to put out the change for a pro tower just yet.
My complaint for the day... I just needed to vent a bit.![]()
I was hoping for a new Mini or iMac myself. Having a new, faster Mini would serve as an excellent media hub and server, I think. Surely it's unacceptable to keep the Mini at the same price point while using some seriously outdated tech under the hood. It's been what, a year and half now since the last refresh? If Apple doesn't care about the Mini, I would rather have them just kill it off instead of leaving the Mac user community hoping for a new one at every single event...
If you needed one, any other desktop besides the Mini would still be good to look at. They might not have the very latest NVIDIA graphics or Intel chips, but they're fast enough for just about everything by all means.
My opinion on other MacWorld items:
- Like the new 17-inch MacBook. Expected and expensive, but the battery life and horsepower underneath make it useful, no doubt. The non-accessible battery (and the RAM/HDD for that matter) may be deal-breakers for some in the future, but still a little early to tell. Hopefully, the matte displays and 8GB of RAM will trickle down to the others.
- iTunes: DRM-free at last. Great. I like the new 3G download capabilities for the iPhone as well, but I doubt that I will ever need the feature. I'm looking forward to:
- iWork/iLife '09. The new iPhone integration into some of the apps and the iPhoto improvements seem interesting to me. I'll be sure to pick up a copy of each suite or that box set they're making. Office 2008's Word has always been buggy for me anyhow. On this Mac, the program has had too many formatting problems. No idea why. Some update must have bricked all of my previous preferences...
There's a new Slingbox app coming out for the iPhone and Axiotron has a slick ModBook Pro in the works. What did I miss? Or better yet, what did they miss? Way to go out with a bang I suppose... one new product and minimal software refreshes. How thrilling. Nothing like the iPhone announcement at MacWorld two years ago, that's for sure. Apple, I'm still waiting to see Snow Leopard hit the shelves.
